It's rumoured, that my family, on my dads side (huguenots) fled France, landed and marched into Peckham and claimed it as their own. Only to be swindled out of it by some dodgy solicitor.
It still hurts every time I drive through the place, to think I could of been King of the bloody shit hole!

I believe it was renamed after one too many drugs busts.
Catford does also boast the Catford Constitutional Club, the old Tory club reopened as a boozer complete with original decor.
But the main difference between the two is that high-earning professional couples can still afford a house in Catford, rather than a flat in Brockley or a cupboard in Peckham. (This was a conversation I had with said couple in the CCC a few months back).

The only South East London centre included in the highest tier (metropolitan) in the London Plan is Bromley. Lewisham is a second tier 'major centre' along with the likes of Orpington, Woolwich, Bexleyheath, Eltham and Catford. West and East Greenwich are separate third tier 'district' centres.
