Chesterfield v Charlton Athletic
Saturday 22nd April 2017 … 3pm Kick-Off
Referee: Michael Salisbury
Introduction
With the Easter break now out of the way, it’s a clean sprint to the end of the season as Charlton prepare to travel to their last away game of the season – This Saturday we make the trip up the M1 to the County of Derbyshire where we face already relegated: Chesterfield, and with the Addicks now mathematically safe its now time to see what little pride these two teams have before both sides head off on their summer holidays.
Charlton themselves come into this fixture as the firm favourites having won the previous encounter 1-0 thanks to a what was a rare Lee Novak goal back at the Valley… Indeed this is our last chance to do the double over a second team this term, Bristol Rovers the only other side we’ve despatched on both occasions.
The Opposition
Name: Chesterfield | Manager: Gary Caldwell
Ground: Proact Stadium
Defeat against Scunthorpe United on Easter Monday saw Chesterfield being sent back into League Two after three years of being in England’s third tier… It was a season that begin with hope when a 2-0 win over Walsall saw the Spireites at the top of League One, albeit though it was for just the one game and four defeats on the trot quickly put an end to any hopes of promotion to the second tier for the first time in the club’s history.

For the rest of 2016; Chesterfield would flirt around the relegation zone and with just four more wins just before Christmas, the Spireites season looked bleak and Danny Wilson was sacked as Manager shortly after the New Year. Taking up the reigns was Gary Caldwell who won this very Division with Wigan twelve months ago yet the wins still refused to come and with relegation confirmed its shown just how quickly a Manager and his stock can quickly fall. Chesterfield were forced to spend two years in League Two the last time they were relegated – Their fans will be hoping that an even quicker promotion will occur the next time round.
Charlton Team News
On Easter Monday it was the turn of Gillingham to visit South East London in what was NOT a Kent Derby with both Addicks fans confirming on here and Gillingham fans confirming that they are Kent’s only League team during the match – Regardless though it didn’t really matter where the two sides came from with the Addicks recording a 3-0 victory after three successive draws between the clubs.
Because of that score line it’ll be another surprise to see any changes (with Karl Robinson leaving the same squad unchanged the last time we won)… With the Addicks safe though it could tempt the tinker man into experimenting ahead of the summer transfer window and with Karlan Ahearne-Grant getting some game time it’ll be a surprise if he doesn’t at least make another cameo from the bench.

We are on a cheese roll here... comfortable 1-10

I'd quite like to see Dijksteel get a taste of first team action, even if it's only from the bench.3

Pressure's off both teams.
An entertaining 0-0 with no shots on target.2 -
1 - 1 bore draw. Save the existing stuff for the last game against Swindon.0

3-2 Charlton, exciting game with a last minute winner! chants of Roland in

As we are now safe, I wonder if KR will stop playing the loan players and look at what he will have next season, although he may keep in Dasilva in the hope he may get him back next season

Last away game was the 'bonkers' Rochdale 3-3.
More of the same please. But a win.
Will KR use this match to look at players? Not sure. I think he wants wins, both for morale, and for his CV.0 -
A win which will make some think it's the start of a turn around. Completing forgetting that the team will look very different next season.0

Should be a rare away win but probably not with our team. 2-2 and another shoddy away performance beckons.0

2-0 to the home side. Now we are safe the players are mentally on the beach.0
