hiya, just aquicky, is it okay to support a local non-league side aswell as the 'addicks;
all the away travelling, fares, lager, etc is beginning to add up, so if i can't make say Barnsley away is it okay to go and watch ateam like Dulwich Hamlet ? £8 admission, cheap(ish) bar, apretty decent standard of football and home (the Golden Lion) by 6-30. is this accept or frowned upon ? cheers. up the 'addicks.

Very much frowned upon I reckon

    Not Proper Charlton
  • Disgraceful behaviour - meant that we couldn't use Group Save rail tickets last season for Barnsley :)

Nah, it's oK. Bromley FC for me. A mile to walk, easy to get a drink and carry it outside, decent football and standing up.

  • okay Mr.R.Specticle, Barnsley was a bad example.
how about Bristol City away (and i know i missed the amazing flying teeth show in the ground) ?
By the way ,by anychance do you or anyone else know if that fine football fanzine -The Anorak Addick- will be out for the swansea match, and if the editor of said publication would like any articles written to include ?

Welcome Paul... at last you're online....you certainly took your time getting to grips with the 21st century...I'm still trying!
  • Its like cheating on your wife,a very low act indeed.
By all means look and maybe admire but never touch.

Bromley are my local team, been there a few times for a cheap football fix and a beer. Never will i be a supporter of them. You find a lot of Palace down there as well as Goldberg and co.
  • Bromley have more millwall fans than palace.
  • bromley probably have more fans THAN the spanners and the weasils

But what if in twenty years they are in a higher league than us?
  • My other team: whoever Millwall/Palace are playing.
  • Dulwich Hamlet deducted 3 points ! Has the world gone mad ?
  • Plastic Whistle, Charlton and Juve for me. Until recently Juve was my glory-hunting light relief.

I remember helping to clear the pitch of snow at Gravesend and Northfleet in the bad winter of '63 so that their cup tie against the mighty Sunderland could go ahead (I was at Gravesend Tech. then). Sun'lnd scored early doors but 'Fleet equalised through brewers drayman Brian Skingley on a freezing cold night. I've had a soft spot for them ever since but not so much since they became Ebbsfleet. The replay? Fleet lost 5-1.

It has to be the mighty Maidstone Utd
  • FC Cologne.

I lived in Cologne for a bit, spent a terrible period (before internet radio) tuning into the BBC World service to catch the occasional second half of a Charlton game. I used to fly from Germany to watch our beloved club. Cologne were promoted to the Bundesliga and were very much the underdogs. Liverpool played a pre-season friendly at the Rhein-Energie Stadion. Die Geissbocker (cologne fans) are fucking mental for their club, I got hooked straight away. Unfortunately Cologne got relegated that season, straight back down to the Budesliga Zwei; but I learned to love another club.. you had to be there, it was an incredible experience.

I still check Cologne scores every week and watch them whenever they are on Setanta.
