And yet, still the EFL distance themselves from the problem: "All we can do, as a competition organiser, is to try to work with those owners on areas of best practice and pass on experience".

As "competition organiser" they should be trying to ensure the long term future of its competition and clubs. To ensure there is adequate corporate governance in place that complies with a certain code of conduct shouldn't be beyond them.2
