when we let him join Rangers for 200k did we have a sell-on clause ? If so he's off to Plymouth for 750k. 10% would net us 55k, 20% 110k. Every little helps !!

Perhaps Plymouth feel they need a hard-tackling midfielder who can cover at centre back & right back. We'd never find space for someone like that. Just don't get it with him - wasn't it Dowie who thought he was the next big thing? (and spent plenty of our dosh trying to prove it). Is he another perennial "prospect"?

Quite happy with Semedo. Funny though how Walton APPEARS to fit the bill so well with the positions we're clearly looking at, and yet doesn't even impress Dowie any more. Maybe it just shows how difficult it is to fill that role.

Argyle have just sold Halmosi to Hull Kingston Rovers or somewhere for £2mill .....so they'll feel the need to splash the cash to quieten a worried fan base - and still have shekels left to count.

Seeing how Halmosi played, I can understand how Argyle will feel that Walton is a very similar type of player.

Was Walton that bad ? Just what we needed last season a midfield enforcer....

We'll never know - he was never given a chance, but he did get rave reviews when at Leeds (hence our splashing out £1m or thereabouts) and did pretty well when he was at Ipswich on loan. On the downside he had quite a few disciplinary problems and I think the word was that he lacked a bit of pace. I got the feeling that his face didn't fit at the Valley and maybe he said one or two things that put the backs up of the coaching staff.

You were actually watching the match, not in the pub.. :-)

I take it there wasnt a sell-on clause then?

He cost us £500k + add-ons that could have taken it eventually to £1mill.
Only a teenager back then, so I wouldn't have thought the signing on fee/wages were too astronomical.

We sold him for £350k, so I guess we lost £150k on the transfer fee.
  • We got rid 'cos the bloke was pony - couldn't pass and was from the "sorry ref I got there as soon as I could" school of tackling.
