FA Board – Proposed Reforms – Final vote 18 May 2017
            WAR has been following the progress of the proposed FA Board reforms, most of which need to be implemented by 31 Oct 2017, or the FA will lose public funding.
The proposal was passed unanimously by the FA Council (presumably including Katrien Meire) on 3 April.
It now goes to a vote by the shareholders at the AGM on 18 May, when a 75% majority is needed.
The key reforms proposed
• A reduction in the size of the board from 12 members to 10, with three members each from the amateur and professional game, two independents and the FA's chairman and chief executive
• Three of those board positions will be held by women from 2018
• Eleven new members will be added to the FA council to boost representation for ethnic minorities, the disabled community, fans groups and women's football
• All council members must be active in the organisations they are elected or nominated to represent, ending the appointment of any new life or senior vice-presidents, with existing life or senior vice-presidents losing their voting rights
• A maximum of three three-year terms for any member of the board or council.
The 2nd bullet point is of particular relevance to Charlton fans, and although the deadline for its implementation is not until next year, there is nothing to prevent the FA appointing 3 women from the start of the new board, rather than having 2 board reorganisations within 12 months.
Nothing wrong with that, provided appointments are made on grounds of competence, not purely gender. WAR supports equal opportunity. However, there appears to be no requirement to ensure competence as a basic qualification for office. Since the close season could be a favourable time for the FA to do something which may be controversial, please keep your eyes peeled!

Giving his "niece" the best possible platform for a seat on the FA Board?
After all, on paper her CV shows her having 3.5 years' experience as a board member of a league football club, and I wonder how many of the current 8 women on the many FA boards & committees can point to that.

By which logic though, they'd only have have one female board member in 2018, because only Heather Rabbatts would have the necessary experience. In reality, we can be absolutely confident that as soon as these vacancies become available Meire will be in on them like a starving Sue Perks at a tray of vol-au-vents. ⦁ She is hugely ambitious for personal glory (witness the fact that she was on R4 in the first place, and the disgraceful acceptance of an unearned and undeserved university gong).
⦁ She has no compunction to shy away from jobs she cannot do (she's still busy wrecking Charlton, three years after being proved to be hopelessly incompetent).
⦁ She lies through her teeth.
It all adds up to one thing. When there's a prestigious place going at the FA, she'll be first in line to snap it up regardless of inexperience, inability or anything she's said on the radio.
