Tariq Holmes Dennis signed for Pompey - would have welcomed him back at LB

Yeah that's a frustrating one. Hopefully it means that Jay DaSilva is close. Would rather him to THD to be honest, though THD is a good player at this level.
I'd prefer both of them to Page (based on the few times I've seen him).
I think Page will be ok, but he needs a run without injury.

Agreed, don't think he lacks potential

Page- Potential Charlton legend or potential whipping boy, seems to be written off by a number of people already. I hope he comes good and injury doesn't ruin another players career

how can you write him off? Luke Young was bang average for about three seasons before he kicked on to another level.

Agree. Page hasn't impressed but he's hardly played.

His problem is that if Dasilva does come in Lewis doesn't have the pace or flare of the Chelsea youngster and so many will dismiss him in the binary way fans do where everyone is either "great" or "shit".
  • Da Silva is only just 19 and has less than 10 starts in pro football, not a chance he'll feature every week even if he's fit but Page is ok to have as a backup in league one though.

I fail to see how any of us can make a judgement about Page.
  • I am not sure many are writing off Page but he is injured for much of this year. Barnes yes can play LB.

Hard to avoid making a judgement in my opinion.

What most people forget to do (especially on the internet) is realise they can change their mind, and that it is ok to be wrong.

We're talking about Charlton fans here - some can even judge a player without having seen him play.

We need a new scapegoat and it looks like Page could be in the frame. What would be really helpful is if we could start abusing him when he plays. Hasn't been the same since Foxy left.

So, is that it, have we spent our budget.

Seems completely dead on the transfer front or have I missed something?

You'd think Karl would know better, than to be all gobby about players coming in.

Better to give good news when it happens rather than disappoint.

Near enough two months left of the transfer window. Bear in mind he probably hasn't seen 4 or 5 of the returning loanees play (Sarr, Ceballos etc).
Probably wants to have a good look at some of the team in friendlies.. then decide on weak spots.
    But that's just me speculating

Read the minutes from the fan's meeting. According to KR money isn't an issue but he will need to sell a few. Also it's only July 6th - we've got until the end of August to complete any ins and outs...so a long way to go.

We still have DaSilva coming in and likely one other as back up for Solly.

David Martin will sign too I reckon.

    That'll give us

    2 Goalkeepers
    2 Right Backs
    2 Left Backs
    40 Centre backs
    3 Wingers
    20 CM's
    7 Forwards.

Da Silva is only just 19 and has less than 10 starts in pro football, not a chance he'll feature every week even if he's fit but Page is ok to have as a backup in league one though.

Da Silva is obviously a very talented player with a big future but I have reservations about him playing full back due to his height. Surely his future lies in the midfield or on the wing.

There is a long way to go, cafc-west but I thought the idea, was to get players in early, so they could have a good pre season together?

A lot of the problems of the past few seasons, has been players coming in late and not being up to speed and needing to play catch up.

It would be great if we could be well prepared and ready to go, come first game.

Oh well, best laid plans of mice and men, as they say.

He's got a good leap on him, he won more aerial challenges than I expected last season

I agree but there are a lot of people on the internet and read something and think it's gospel. Several people will say "Page is shit" and a few sheeple will then believe and repeat it and before long it becomes generally accepted that "Page is shit" whereas the originator might now have formed a different opinion.

There is no way we can judge him yet - there have been flashes of decent defensive understanding and times when his passing has made him look like an amateur. He needs games time to get some consistency..

Anyone remember DaSilva's debut? Many people wrote him off after a 20 minute cameo - yet we now know he is a wonderful prospect and all because he got some game time.

    As is Roberto Carlos

You don't need to watch a player to know they're shit - there's enough experts to ask. It's been decided that Page is shit so can we please agree on him being this season's scapegoat.

Since Foxy and Francis left we've struggled to really abuse players. I love listening to our fans calling a player a 'useless c***' when they're stood about two yards away - it really boosts their confidence.

Jordi Alba is 5 ft 6
And Gary Medel, El Pitbull, plays central defender for Chile despite being only 5' 7".

Was shocked that his only time in the Premier League was with Cardiff City, even more surprised he plays for Inter now.

I thought he played for another minor team now and was gonna express my disbelief that another Premier League team hadnt signed him up

Da Silva would possibly lose an ariel battle with Peter Crouch but you take that into account and use strengths not expose weaknesses.
Da Silva is good for this division in my eyes, although a long sustained tough campaign is something he hasn't experienced yet.

Chris Perry was one of the shortest centre halves going, but he kept Peter Crouch in his pocket when he played against at the Valley. Hieight isn't everything.

As for why is all gone quiet on the transfer front - all in Ireland doing pre-season & we all know there is no internet, wifi or mobile phone signal over there - KR is trying to use smoke signals to communicate with KR but she is having trouble trying to read them & is blaming Donald Trump for all the smoke in the atmosphere !!

He played more in central midfield there, which is where he'd played for Sevilla. He plays center half for Chile, as part of that fantastic generation of exceptionally talented, athletic short players who pressed their way to two Copa America wins and a Confed Cup final.
