  • And Harry Styles spent the whole movie dying for a shit.
    Wrong actor.
  • People can stop pretending they don't know who a member of One Direction was now.
  • it would've been your boring, run of the mill war movie then. They made a bunch of those back in the 50s/60s.
Why would it have to be boring because it's not in a messed up order?

A well told story with today's technology (by which I don't just mean CGI) for the action can be compelling.
  • I am vaguely aware of two members of One Direction now. The other one Is the one Bill Maher talks about here...and why should I know who they are? As Bill says, I am not a 12 year old girl!

Nolan's not the man to make that movie, but I agree a traditional war movie on the subject would be interesting to see.

  • I like The Little White Lies method of marking movies.

    3 Marks out 5

    Anticipation...
    Whilst Watching...
    In retrospect...

Quite often as @stackitsteve says you can view a movie quite differently after seeing it, and also expect too much going in.
  • Now The Prestige is a great film.
Yes I watched is last weekend. Great recommendation.

I've seen the 50's Dunkirk film and will be seeing the new one tomorrow (hopefully). Comments are being made about the new film telling the story through 3 arcs and those stories / characters intertwining towards the end. That is exactly what happened with the 50's film. Guess I'll find out tomorrow if the storytelling perspective is original or not.

I was happy with the three threads and thought that it worked well.

    Not complicated to follow imho.

and why should I know who they are?

    Thanks.

My son thought it was really good so i showed him some real film and asked what the difference was.
He said the real soldiers all smoked and that most of them only had a few teeth!
  • No doubt Dunkirk is a well made film. I was looking forward to watching it but found it difficult to get into. Think I will need to watch it again. Initial thoughts I liked the story structure, performances etc but found the music jarring in the sense that it felt more epic than the visuals.
  • Watched Moonlight a couple of days ago. Loved it, super refreshing, heartbreaking love story.
  • War for the planet of the apes......very enjoyable film which was verging on greatness but lost its way with the introduction of the comedy puffer jacketed chimp and got a bit silly from there on in. 6/10 Strange how we end up rooting for the Apes and despising ourselves.
  • Watched the 1958 Dunkirk last night. Good film and interesting to see the number of scenes retained in the latest version. Obviously they are both based on the same event so there is a kind of inevitability to this.

Well directed, not surprisingly, by Michael Balcon and a great addition to the excellent Ealing Films portfolio.

    Apologies, meant Producer.
  • Just watched Patriots Day, quite a powerful film.

The last five minutes almost had me in tears.
  • As a Stephen King fan, I am beyond excitement at both Dark Tower and IT movies.

For anyone unaware of the stories - Dark Tower combines elements of Lord of the Rings / Game of Thrones fantasy and real life action / drama. Trailer looks epic.

And IT is a cross between the Goonies, Stand by Me and a killer clown.
  • IT looks good. As much as Tim Curry nailed Pennywise, it was a fairly cheap TV miniseries so the movie is very welcome.

Sadly, it sounds like Dark Tower might be going a bit wrong. The studio may have bottled it.
  • I see Stephen King and switch off....cant remember anything he has done that was even vaguely good to be honest.

I thought the new version looked a bit shite. Curry's Pennywise is terrifying, the new one looks a bit too polished.
Hopefully the new version will have the end sorted out. Always pissed me off.
  • Apart from The Shining , Shawshank Redemption , The Green Mile , Misery , Carrie , Stand By Me and The Mist what has Stephen King ever done for us....
Both the Shawshank and Green Mile were adaptions of Novellas Stephen King wrote and re-wriiten for the screen by others and both very good films...so some credit given...the rest are bleh...opinions are like Arseholes Mr Bedsaddick...we all have them, and I really have tried to "like" his books but failed. The TV series IT was awful.....
  • And Misery!! Funny thing is, if there's one person whose opinion on Stephen King adaptations I don't take remotely seriously, it's Stephen King. He hates the good ones and loves the bad ones.

Also, anyone ever see the TV movie adaptation of The Langoliers? The CGI pac-man things were hilarious. Sometimes King's mind is best left on the page.
