NewsShopper Blog: Why Roland Duchatelet and Katrien Meire have proved Addicks fans wrong this summer

Sorry but I do still have concerns over the team... there is Squad depth in some areas but we're woefully short in others.
Still only half a job being done by the owners when so much more should be done!!15 -
"My reaction to this summer – BRAVO, Katrien - not only has she listened to the manager and the team about the type of players that Karl Robinson has requested but she’s delivered and done this under the shadow of criticism from previous seasons after admitting mistakes.
There are signs that Katrien could now be the type of person this club needs to go forward this season."
Surely she's paid the journo to write this shit?52 -
Why did we have to sell Teixeira and Ceballos before bringing in new signings especially as both of those have been loan deals?1
-
Ultimately for the average fan it's results on the pitch that matter and they won't get close to redeeming themselves until we're back in the top half of the Championship. Even then, I think the relationship between owner/board and fans is irreparable.32
-
It's been a decent window and possibly yet to improve further still. Talk of no interference with the managers autonomy. Meire seemingly taking a more remote role. All good.
Not changing my mind. Duchatelet still treating Charlton fans with contempt and no signs that it will change.
Have they learned lessons ? If they have then it's only a grudging recognition that their initial model was not only doomed before it began but was also poorly implemented.
Just sell up and leave Duchatelet.34 -
thought I would copy and paste as that website has to be one of the shittest on the internet. script problems, pop ups and adverts.

"At the beginning of the summer, I spoke about how important recruitment would be for Charlton and how Katrien Meire and Roland Duchatelet could still get it right. We are here now, just three days away from the start of the season.
So, how have they done?
We have signed Billy Clarke, Tariqe Fosu, Mark Marshall, Jay Dasilva, Ben Amos and look set to tie up deals for Ben Reeves and two more players. We have given long-term contacts to Ricky Holmes and Jason Pearce, who were two of the club’s most influential players in a bad team last year. Also, we have moved on two of the highest earners at the club in Jorge Teixeira and Cristian Ceballos, which has freed up some much-needed funds.
My reaction to this summer – BRAVO, Katrien - not only has she listened to the manager and the team about the type of players that Karl Robinson has requested but she’s delivered and done this under the shadow of criticism from previous seasons after admitting mistakes.
There are signs that Katrien could now be the type of person this club needs to go forward this season. My personal message is ignore the hate – you have proven many people wrong by giving Robinson the players he desperately needs.
This squad is good enough for promotion - nothing more to say there - all we can do now is be the 12th man! The fans must give that extra motivation the team needs to get back to where this club deserves to be. There will be certain fans, who will always complain about the Belgian regime because of previous mistakes. And it’s been said before but it means something now: They seem to finally have learned from past mistakes.
Robinson has talked about having a clean slate with his players, and after this summer, maybe it’s time for certain fans to do the same with Katrien and Roland. Stop complaining on Twitter when you get a chance to tweet something negative and get behind the team.
And in nine months’ time, let the corks pop and the bubbly flow. I can see us finishing 3rd and going up through the play-offs."14 -
He's a blogger, not a journalist and he always writes pro-regime stuff.Chris_from_Sidcup said:"My reaction to this summer – BRAVO, Katrien - not only has she listened to the manager and the team about the type of players that Karl Robinson has requested but she’s delivered and done this under the shadow of criticism from previous seasons after admitting mistakes.

I judge results as the indicator of success, as I'm sure do most, and we ain't even played a competitive match this year! The summer transfer dealings have been better than previous summers (not a very high bar was set there, mind) but it does not at all mean success this year is guaranteed. There is 9 long hard months of football before then.7

I've seen no evidence of sweeping changes whatsoever.
Lot of this bullshit had been floating around this past week.12 -

Lets just see how this season pans out.
If you swap the names of Robinson for Slade and the names of Clarke,Fosu and Amos for Novak,Ajose and Rudd, it could well have been written a year ago.
Maybe save the article as a template and knock it out again at the start of next season.21 -
katrien and roland you have not proved me wrong, do continue to go f yourself12

Could also add Marshall / Holmes to the similaritiesHarryLime said:Lets just see how this season pans out.

It's either been written as a favour for her or it's someone who really hates the protests. Hard to believe it's a genuine viewpoint.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Oh dear , this one could come back to bite.0

Did I miss why they have proved us wrong or was it just a list of loans, free transfers and rumoured signings set against cost cutting?
If so then yep, sorry Kat, your the bestest x
(*I am a ST Holder who is looking forward to Saturday so am not being negative for the sake of it)14 -
Exactly, it can't possibly be.Uboat said:

There are probably only 3 people on this planet who think she's the "type of person this club needs to go forward", and they are RD, Sue and Meire herself.7 -
I wonder if this will still be his thinking when he calls us 'vinger Pissers' again (probably around October time when the yearly sacking occurs(which i think is also around his birthday isn't it))1

katrien see how patient we have been.0

This guy has been pushing a Katrien agenda for quite a while in numerous articles. You have to wonder whether it's either to generate a reaction, or there is an alternative agenda5

Absolute tripe, our in house PR guy is certainly value for money0

The regime appear to have learned their lessons. English manager Russell Slade has been given control over who to buy, bringing in Nicky Ajose and Ricky Holmes while the influential players of a bad team, notably Ademola Lookman, have been kept on when bigger fish have been interested.
My reaction to the summer - BRAVO Katrien - {...} what happens now can no longer be blamed on you. You have learnt from past mistakes. Whilst certain fans cannot support you for what you have done remember this... It is their fault you wont be taking calls from Charlton fans when you appear on TalkSport using words like war to describe the situation.
My advice for you Katrien is this. Ignore the hate. You have given Slade the players he desperately needs.
And in 9 months time, let the corks and bubbly flow, I can see our best player in the premier league, a gobshite manager in charge and a club whose sole goal for next summer is hanging on to Ricky Holmes. Meanwhile, Millwall will be promoted back to the Championship and Chris Wilder, the numpty who refused to work for Katrien and went to the chalice that is Sheffield Utd will win the league at a canter.
When the Summer of 2017 roles around we can finally celebrate as Katrien will have learnt from her mistakes.11 -
I tend to agree with the article.
I was opposed to ridiculously unqualified managers and useless foreign players. This has been rectified.3 -

Let's not judge them on what they done over the past three years but on what might happen over the next nine months20

It wouldn't be the first time a blogger had been offered 'special treatment' to do the club's bidding.AFKABartram said:This guy has been pushing a Katrien agenda for quite a while in numerous articles. You have to wonder whether it's either to generate a reaction, or there is an alternative agenda

First thought was a classic counter opinion article to get people seething and more clicks. Did make me laugh that even the most positive of articles only had us as playoffs...Uboat said:

Just nonsense isn't it, I'm a little more quietly optimistic than last year but it's still an unbalanced squad with plug gap frees and loans with a lot of hope relying on players who haven't reached the heights people are projecting for them this year (our forwards to score more, Kashi to stay fit and the young guys to fit straight in and be consistent).
Doesn't appear that they learn from mistakes, more just throw enough shit at a wall and hope some new approach sticks.1
