Not the first player Charlton has had that was managed by his mum. The oldies will remember this player, although his name escapes me for a moment. I think it was in the 60's or 70's, a winger with us who wanted to go back home to South Africa I believe, and his mum negotiated a deal with Charlton. Come on oldies, what was his name. Got it Cliff Durandt 1962-19650

For £300k I agree with you. Though there are available players like Bogle and Grigg who can pretty much guarantee the goals we need to get promotion.
Hence why it is massively disappointing that we've only invested circa £175k on transfers this season (estimated £100k on Clarke and £75k on Fosu). KR has done well to acquire/get back as many quality players without transfer fees as he has (Reeves, Marshall, Da Silva, Kashi) but you have to be prepared to spend on some players. We spent fae more in the Powell season (Green, Wiggins, Stephens etc) and even more under Slade.
Really hope the club show some ambition and give him just 10% of money generated from player sales in 2017 to allow us to sign more than a young unwanted loanee or unproven div 2 striker.
We would be right up there if we do and fans will only be proved right if KM and RD don't support a promising campaign this year. If it doesn't work they can sell Konsa at the end of the season (or in Jan) and recoup 4 times the proven £750k - £1m striker investment in out goings.
Bogle got 3 in 12 for Wigan last year, but prior to that he'd never played higher than League Two. I don't think he'd be a bad signing by any stretch, but if Wigan are asking £1m+ for him it's like...I don't know it's just a lot of money, even in adjusted terms, for a player with 2 years in League Two and before that National League.
I don't know, I still think looking abroad would provide the best value for money and best risk/reward scenario, but Karl doesn't seem interested in signing players from abroad which, to me, is a mistake.

Would love Matt Smith from QPR on loan. Not sure he's getting much game time there, but Holloway probably wouldn't let him go. Brock-Madsen from Birmingham could be an option too. Tyler Walker will be a good player, but maybe not the type of player we're after. Not sure if he's injured, but Emmanuel-Thomas isn't playing much at the moment. He could do a job at this level.5

I rarely comment on such speculation but If we are shopping in these markets then I would prefer to see someone like Jay Simpson in the mix.
I recognise he failed at Orient but they were a bigger basket case than we were. He has at least shown he CAN play at this level and higher.
He is currently largely sitting on the bench in Philadelphia with his contract expiring in 4 months. I doubt he is on an expensive contract in the MLS.
Equally there is Jay Emmanuel-Thomas who is the last year of his contract at QPR and was on loan at Gillingham last season.
Not exactly signings to get the pulse racing but at least they have some pedigree and with the right management could rekindle something of a career.

I'm pretty sure he has a little more than £300k to spend. It would make absolutely no sense to reveal our transfer budget to other teams knowing full well we desperately need a striker.SDAddick said:

Last season was a bit of an anomaly and there are usually more like 4 or 5 players that hit 20+ goals, but having one is not a guarantee of promotion and nor is not having one a guaranteed roadblock to promotion.
We are a mid-table club in the third division.
No good striker is willing to drop down to L1 from The Championship or EPL. No good striker is going to be transferred within L1. Why would they go lateral? And any good striker in L2 skips past L1 and goes straight to The Championship.
The L1 clubs with good strikers typically develop them. Not transfer them in.

That said, 1 in 15 for Philadelphia isn't great. The Union are pretty rubbish, but you'd hope for better than that.
Also, I wouldn't be so sure that he's not on at least okay money in the MLS. It's also possible that he would require a transfer fee as MLS tends to try to wring everything they can out of a deal.0 -

Sow very much feels like a Driesen signing. A return to the bad old days. And we thought we'd turned a corner. Still, just speculation for now.0

Although Sharp 30 & Vaughan 24 were the only strikers to score 20 or more L1 goals.
Matty Taylor was on 16 when he was transferred from Rovers to City and Zach Clough after missing the start of the season was on 9 when transferred from Bolton.
