Comparison with Huddersfield Town

As some may know, my wife is a Huddersfield fan who is currently basking in the glory of their superb season. Much as I am pleased for her, it isn't without issue that I view their success. She accuses me of being jealous. Well frankly, too bloody right I am jealous! They have an owner in Dean Hoyle who is a local boy made good and Huddersfield through and through. Fans have not always agreed with some of his decision making over the years but nobody could ever doubt he had the best interests of the club at heart. What they have now is a club full of spirit and togetherness punching above their weight and potentially heading to the premier league after yet another victory tonight. In the meantime, here we are, a club that were promoted along with Huddersfield in 2012 (but with a considerably better team and squad) wallowing in mid table obscurity in League One and going nowhere. Much as it pains me to say, I look at a club like Huddersfield at the moment and think of what it used to be like to be a Charlton fan. In the meantime, we have a mediocre team, a divided fanbase and uncertain future.
As a fan of over 30 years this is without doubt a low period. For my sins, I still have a season ticket despite knowing all the valid reasons why I shouldn't have. Much as I wish it didn't hurt, it still does. I know it is naive to expect us to be taken over by a Charlton fan who has the same passion for the club much as that is what many of us would wish for but just a chink of light would help so much to lift the spirits. I fear that chink of light may be a long time coming.
I don't confess to being as close to issues as some are. I have never been local as grew up and still live and travel to games from Northampton but I admire the work of CARD and all protesters despite only being able to support sporadically. With a pull of togetherness we will get our club back one day and hopefully I will at least be able to hold household bragging rights again!! Sorry for the rambling, depressing post....

    My girlfriend is a Huddersfield fan. She only gets up there once or twice a season, but her parents have season tickets and her mum always texts her updates from matches.

    Dean Hoyle gambled hugely with Wagner - in a way he didn't with Powell - and by slashing the cost of season tickets, but it's paying off handsomely and I hope they go up. The spirit around the place is incredible - and this is after years of them being terrible. The win over Leeds the other week - and Wagner's celebrations - tells you everything you need to know about them right now.

    A lot of it has been a gamble, but it shows what can be achieved when club and fans are on the same side.

    Some big games this week, Man City away (cup), Newcastle at home then Villa at home next Tuesday.

    It's good times up here, we will I suspect fall short but hey, 4th lowest budget in the division, we have had an unbelievable season whatever the outcome.

    We are just happy to see a Team play football the way it should be played and we have a go every match. That is enough for most of us.

    Plenty of similarities between our Clubs, community / family orientated, size.

    I know things are a bit tough down there at the moment, stick with it, it will happen and I sincerely hope it does.

    we've learnt this season that money does not always buy success, i.e. Aston Villa and that expert player recruitment allied to excellent team spirit brings success .. and your owner is a local boy 'done well' .. proves that a real passion for your club also helps

    good luck in the play offs (I reckon Brighton and the Geordies are certs), be good to see another Yorkie club in the Premier

    Huddersfield Town are the first newly promoted side to the EPL not to concede a goal in their opening 3 fixtures since..... CAFC! In 1998.
    Doesn't anyone else watch MOTD these days?

    2 of their clean sheets were against Newcastle and Southampton, just as 2 of ours were. Delighted that they got their other one in the process of thrashing Palace, but sorry Terriers, our clean sheet at Highbury was more impressive.

    And we did it without Richard Rufus who was sent off in the first game, and we scored five in one of our matches. Great times.

    Let's face it, Huddersfield would have claimed that hadn't conceded or lost even if they had been beaten 5-0 each game.

    Still see them doing either a Wigan or Blackpool at the moment... Come February will tell us whether they've managed to adapt fully or whether like Blackpool they'll go on an awful run at some stage and will narrowly be relegated.

    I certainly fear for them when they lose Wagner as this form aint helping, first sacking in the Premier League will see him instantly linked

    Agree he'll be linked but doubt he'll go unless it's to a top seven club He is a systems manager, his teams have a system that they adhere to that requires work in recruitment, pre-season, etc. He's not a firefighter. I'm not convinced the draw of the likes of Crystal Palace or Stoke will be enough to see him make a switch mid-season.

    Yes, it took him a little while to turn Huddersfield around. It's a project, he seems to be in it for the long haul.
