Heard this sad news today at the legends game.
Was involved in some of the darkest and some of the best days in the club's history.

R I P Mr Collins. Always a cheerful greeting in fleeting encounters.0

Correct. Twice. He briefly succeeded Mark Hulyer in 1983 (I think) and then John Fryer 1987-89.Henry Irving said:

Sorry to hear the news today. He played an important role in 1984, in particular, and was the only main to serve on all the boards from Gliksten onwards until the late 2000s.2 -

How poignant Richard should pass away today, a day when other Charlton legends were playing at the Valley.

Very sorry to hear that. I seem to recall that, following a director resignation in 1984 (probably Mark Hulyer's) following a game at the Valley against Swansea, Richard Collins was literally 'the last man standing'. He certainly served the club well over all those years.

Sorry to hear this news. I was sat just outside the directors box today and saw quite a few of the old directors I've had the pleasure of meeting before. including Derek Ufton, and wondered if Richard Collins made it as I didn't see him or his car. Sad news.2
