Kent Senior Cup - 2017/18 Season

With the Addicks making their first appearance this season v Welling Utd tonight here's your one size fits all thread for Charlton and other games this season.

As usual should be an U23 side tonight but the kids played on Monday night at Crewe so may even see some U18s.

Will Reeves get a run out?

Will Sarr captain the side?

Who knows?

Edit: oops, beaten to it elsewhere. Not sure why we're doing him any favours.
  • That is a strong side with 7 players from the Gills game 18 starting.
  • Robinson is here...
  • 0-0 HT. We have them on toast for pace. Anderson and KAG can go past their full backs at will. But neither of them can cross or pass to save their lives...
  • Imagine Reeves will be involved on Saturday unless he's picked up another injury.
  • Welling have player sent off!

  • 1-0 delightful shot from the edge of the box by Nobby Sarr!
  • FT 1-0
  • Sounds like we made hard work of beating 10 men but through to the next round and a few players got a run out.

Like Peeters did with Bikey when he had no one else.

Even more remarkable than the Third Coming of Roger Johnson is the fact that Phillips, Konsa, Sarr, Aribo, Jackson, Ahearne-Grant and Dodoo took 93 minutes to score against 10-man Welling.

So the 2 strikers we rely on to come off the bench & change the game for the 1st team can't score a goal betwen them against a 10 man Welling team. That really fills me with confidence.
  • With Ricky Holmes suspended on Saturday there's a big opportunity for someone to start against Bury.

Did any of the senior players take that opportunity last night?

And in Dodoo case never looked like scoring

An extract from the OS report of the match:

Charlton: Phillips, Mascoll, Konsa, Sarr (Johnson 58), K Yao, Carter, Aribo, Jackson, Ahearne-Grant (Doughty 58), Anderson, Dodoo (F Yao 70).

Sooo, how did the omnipresent Sarr get substituted in the 58th minute but score in the 93rd?

To defend Dodoo a bit, I don't think he got a decent pass to him all night...

Sarr seems a better choice up front than Dodoo if big Mag gets injured.

Big and strong, wins headers, can actually pass the ball, shoots, has actually scored a goal.

    Copied from another Welling thread.....

We were bang average last night with most of the senior pros strolling round like they really would rather have been doing something else. Only Sarr looked decent. In fact I wouldnlike to get him in the team - he looks imperious at the moment and I'd be tempted to rotate him for Bauer.

Yao looked hopeless and did nothing other than give the ball away and start a ridiculous scuffle over a nothing tackle. One particularly poor pass had Robinson laughing and shaking his head.

Dodoo looked lost. The fact he is our only senior back-up striker is an utter joke. If Magennis gets injured we have a huge problem because make no mistake this kid is useless.

Don't think we'll be seeing Jackson in midfield anytime soon. His passing was appalling and Nanetti the Welling number 10 gave him the run around all night.

Only real hi-light was a lovely strike from Sarr for the goal.

Watched the U23s last season in this cup and the current lot look a shadow of that side.

Finally, WTF are we doing indulging Roger Johnson? The bloke is a class a prick and was booked for mouthing the ref last night. I'm sure he has something on Katrine.
  • Headed to Welling straight after work and arrived as the first half was ending. Offered to pay full price to come in and the steward said no. He said there was a health and safety issue, a fire issue and if he did it for me he would have to do it for everyone. There was no one else within sight. Later on he did however let in 4 other people, who claimed they were with Charlton. This was hardly a Arsenal v Cologne situation. The attendance was only 154. Last time i go to Welling fc.
