Well I can't see why he would want to go to Hull or WBA .... so maybe another year in London and then sold next summer to Strasberg or Hamburg

Why not AFKA? What if we structure a deal which allows him to move to a Prem Club if an offer comes in at a certain level, or if we fail to go up this season or a combination? If we do go up this season and he is out of contract, the club will not want him leaving on a Bosman.

This article is saying he wanted to stay. Waggott implies the same thing. Maybe the sale to West Brom didn't go through because he was just happy to stay. I believe we were holding out for near to £3M and WBA offered around £2M, I can't believe that we would have turned this down or not found a compromise unless ZZ indicated his reluctance to leave us. WIth that in mind I can see him signing a new contract with some structured exit options if we don't go up.

Whats really good in my view is that it appears that he does want to stay and fight and that really bodes well for this season.

If he does sign it's only to guarantee us a fee in January I suspect

I go along with Bing - it's more or less how I see it.

The club protect their investment and the player has an option to better himself, if that's what he wants.
And in the meantime, Pards has a very useful player available to select.

    Win-win situation for everybody.

(until January when P*rk*r Syndrome kicks in ...lol)

until we know exactly why the deal didn't go through its hard to evaluate what went on, can the board please edumicate us on this?

quite possible although we could still get a fee in January as he'd still have a 6 months left to run on his current contract. it would be significantly less then we might have got this summer mind and could disrupt the team assuming he was doing well.

The other side is that if we sign him up to a longer contract we are stuck with him next season IF we can't sell him and so would still be paying his wages ala Amdy Faye/Marcus Bent.

We could perhaps then loan him out and get a loan fee but it is still a risk.

Difficult all this transfer stuff but still happy he's staying

I would imagine any contract he signs with us will be less than anything West Brom would have offered which is puzzling no ?

They might if they had any idea what edumicate meant

Derek Chappell and Bob whitehand are coming to Bromley Addicks on 14th October. You can ask them then.

I'm not saying they should I am merely stating we can't really know unless they do.

Maybe ZZ does like it here or flip it around he knows that he cant go to another UK club due to his work permit and wants to stay.

Maybe money's not his primary motivation?

He's got wife and kids ...... maybe they're settled in now. That's one family that have had already one major upheaval and culture change. Maybe he doesn't want to put them through another quite so soon?

Doesn't/didn't he live next door to a CL poster?

Why go to Hull/WBA, get relegated then have to move AGAIN next season - may as wait for us to go up, get taken over by a billionaire and then play CL football in 2 years.

    Why not AFKA?

Because i suspect he is already one of our highest earners.
Because with numerous clubs enquiring / trying to sign him in the Jan window, he could attract Premiership wages and a bigger stage.
Because his advisors (who seem to have a hell of a lot more influecnce on players careers than UK agents) will be pushing for him to be playing on the highest world stage.
Because if we don't go up this season then we will have to reduce the budget almost as dramatically again next summer, and won't be able to risk having a player on such good wages.

The only way i can see him re-signing for us is because a move failed last week because of a medical problem that would cost silly insurance another club wasn't prepared to pay out for, or because there is no way he could get a visa to play for any other English club due to China's world standing. It certainly won't be 'because he is happy here'/

I could be completely, cynically wrong, but certain things just don't stack up for me.

Or the other option, we're about to be taken over by a Chinese Zillionaire, and he sees ZZ as key !

Or he's a family man - and doesn't want to uproot them quite so soon?

Not saying that's necessarily right, of course - but it could just be the answer is more simple than cynics make out.

WSS: an argument on here, not without Rothko..

If his move failed due to work permit problem perhaps his only option to stay in English football and play in the prem is by staying with us till 2010 or whenever it expires?

    All quite possible.

The only certainty is that AFKA is far too young to be so cynical : - )

Now you are sounding like Pete Tong 1 : - )

I await the "I just saw a very rich looking Chinese guy with a "my other car is a Lear Jet" sticker pulling up at The Valley" rumours.

Henry, if our guest speakers are going to be 'edumicating' in public it's important to make it clear to all those thinking of attending that it's an 'adults only' meeting!
