Sorry should have put this in my last thread but only just came across it.

My dad is always going about this guy as he saw him play on quite a few occasions

    I read the book back in the 90s. I can't remember all the details but I remember that in spite of all the laddish comedy it's actually quite a sad book. He could have done so much, but was kicked out of the game, literally.

    Edit - by 'the book' I mean 'The best player you never saw' not this one.

    The story about kicking Mark Lawrenson in the face and then shitting in his kit bag.

    I give Robin Friday his due, he absolutely didn't take any shit off anyone

    Read a great thing about him in WSC once, he was a great player but an absolute nutter apparently.

    Total legend in Reading.

    He had it all except self discipline, otherwise he surely would have played in the top division.
    So sad how he self-destructed.
