The Old Vic.roseandcrown said:Been Blackburn twice both in December near Xmas and both 3 nil loses so hoping Saturday is not a hatrick.
Good away day still is Blackburn though. Not a bad pub near the ground and a chance to go to the pub opposite the station at Preston (forget the name) which is a decent waiting pub.
What is a "waiting pub" btw?
Do you have drive thru boozers where you live?!!!!0 -

Try the one at Gatwick ( can't remember which terminal but it's the one you don't have to get the shuttle train to). Was there in June & the "pub" was very quiet, 6 or 7 staff behind the bar & I think just five people standing at the bar waiting to be served. 4 of the staff were involved in a discussion on how to clean the coffee machine, 2 others were engaged in some other duties, counting the ice cubes or something so only one was serving. This one was so slow he made the staff in the Covered End bars look enthusiastic, eventually one of the ice cube counters sauntered over & asked is anybodyElfsborgAddick said:

That or they cannot see me the other side of the bar.fumingwaiting, jumping in quick I ordered a beer & thought I'd have a whisky but they didn't have what I wanted so I asked what whiskey do you have, erm Jack Daniels & Southern Comfort. No they are not whiskey i said & pointed out what looked like whiskey & so she went & brought me a bottle of whiskey & back & forth until there were four bottles on the bar, I made my choice paid & wandered off to a seat not quite believing what I had just experienced for 15 minutes. Unfortunately almost dying of thirst I downed my beer pretty quickly so back up to the bar & again had a bit of a wait but nothing like the first time & ordered my whisky by name this time & the barman said & what mixer do you want with that ? just on its own thanks. Oh no you must have a mixer with it he said !!!! What do you mean ? So he says "It's the house rules, we can't sell spirits unless you have a mixer" That's ridiculous I said I've just been served whisky with no mixer. Ahh well you shouldn't have been. At this point I told him to get the manager who came over, apologised & said the barman was mixed up with some rules regarding some certain drink which they won't serve unless you have a mixer
So I had a bit of a moan about the time it took to get served when there was virtually no one at the bar while 6 stood behind playing with the coffee machine. Ah he said new staff being trained, what about training them to serve pints I replied. Well we had experienced staff serving at the bar. I retreated with pint & whiskey & no mixer.
