Football existed long before the FA was created 1863.
What the FA did was bring all the various (public school and upper class) versions together under one set of rules so they could play each other.
Then Blackheath and Rugby school walked out and started some stupid minority support.
But Association Football thrived as forms of football already existed in places like Sheffield and with workers in Cray. The FA tapped into a large pre-existing market for the game.2 -
At the time there would have been plenty of other teams to play - there was a wave of enthusiasm to play the game and clubs were being formed all around the country, but matches were very localised.thai malaysia addick said:

These are just the oldest clubs still existing. Most of their contempories have been long gone of course, absorbed into others or closed completely, just like local leagues today.
