Hope he isn't. I'd like to see Charlton returned to some old school respectability, in an ideal world.Airman Brown said:
Nothing, but then we knew nothing of Alex McLeish and Donald Muir until they turned up last weekend.carly burn said:
You heard anything about Ashley being involved Airman?Airman Brown said:
Not yet. He’s next up.carly burn said:Didn't he (Ashley)get a few quid back off Jiminez through the courts recently?
Was probably our money anyway. Maybe he's returning it to its rightful owner.
Which of course it isn't.2 -
I understand Mike Ashley was in London yesterday and not at the Newcastle v Swansea game2

I think after RD we need to look beyond the pure £ wealth of an owner and see if they are likely to be decent or not.Bedsaddick said:Why anyone wouldn't welcome Ashley is perplexing. he's worth £2.3 Billion, what's not to like?
That said, on Ashley I would give him a chance as I have previous owners, he has put a lot of cash into Newcastle and has experience of owning a UK based club.

I seriously doubt that Ashley is involved, however if he were (aside from signing us up to some no-mark shirt sponsor (don't forget we already have a bookies)) would you not think he'd take great pleasure in showing up his old colleagues by making us successful....?1

Based on numerous anecdotal accounts, court appearances, his appearance in front of a parliamentary committee etc I have no doubt that Ashley is an obnoxious and unpleasant man. But as James says, it isn't an ideal world, there aren't many angelic owners out there and compared to RD it would be paradise.5

So this Ashley rumour has come off a facebook account from a guy who says he does a 2 minute mile.16

Over reaction post of the year. One of the most hated owners in world football ? Really ?NapaAddick said:Please Allah, no!
Ashley would be a disaster. Why? Because he has been one everywhere he goes. But it would make some sense. With Muir being an expert at reducing debt and Ashley demanding to make a profit each year, combined they would be a tag team of destruction. Ashley is one of the most hated owners in the world of football. To think he might be okay for us because we are small flies in the face of his history, in my opinion. He has been despised everywhere he goes almost as much as RD has. Plus, the idea he might be spending some money to own CAFC shares while he has made zero funds available this window for a PL club in a critical relegation battle, says all you need to know, if true. Ashley has taken one of the bigger clubs in England and got them relegated twice and maybe even a third time by the end of the year. Not what we need here.

How is he on a par with the Oystons, Roland or the people who have been at Orient, Portsmouth, Hull, Cardiff, Birmingham, Hartlepool etc ?
He’s not liked by Newcastle fans because he’s not a Geordie, pure and simple. It’s why they labelled him and his mates, The Cockney Mafia.
As for Newcastle being one of the bigger clubs, they’re really not that big. Not outside Geordieland anyway.10 -
If you look in detail at Ashley's tenure at Newcastle, particularly the early years, it was a shit show. What would his ambitions be for Charlton? Would he invest here or would we still be reliant on free transfers and loans?alan dugdale said:

I completely understand the "anyone is better than Roland" view of this takeover, but I hope we end with an owner who is significantly better than Roland, not just slightly better.
Of course, if it is an Ashley takeover, I will be willing to give him a full and fair chance.1 -

It could be that Duche is refusing to put any more cash into the club and is selling players to cover costs whilst he is still the owner. Doesn't work in the long term but does for a few months.3

The early Ashley days were a car crash. The treatment of Keegan (who won his court-case) and Joe 'F******' Kinnear. But (until this year) he has always invested in the team and wants the club to win. So as much as I dislike tbe early years of his NUFC tenure, he is a 100% better option than RD.3

To be fair to mike ashley he’s clearly learned throughout his time at Newcastle.
They’re a massive club up there though, everyone up there supports Newcastle, it’s firmly in the areas psyche. They see themselves as a club that should be competing at the very top.
As long as we have the potential to be a decent premier league side I think most people would be very happy at charlton.9 -
Don't think Ashley would be happy with being in anything but the PL. For that reason I'd initially be fine with it.1
