Used to use those old trains to get to school in the early/mid 90's. Delays and cancellations were welcomed back then, missed plenty of lessons due to general train crapness, although never heard the lost head excuse!eaststandmike said:
Imagine if MrLargo was commuting in the 80's. Closing the line to look for a missing head would not have been on his list of acceptable reasons to cancel or delay trains.cafckev said:
Used to really enjoy cleaning those coaches out each evening....yuckMacronate said:Was also common to find a grot mag under the seats in one of those carriages.
Much happier times.
There was the famous (true) story of the headless body in one of those single "doggy kennel" compartments, in the early 80's
A chap gets on the train, and during the journey decided to look out of the window. He stayed there, looking out until the train arrived. He was looking out the opposite side to the platforms, so no one was concerned.
When the train arrived in London, the station staff were walking along, closing open doors etc and saw him still standing there. They called him, but he didn't respond, so went into the coach and shook him, at which point his headless body fell back into the coach. Needless to say, the poor old platform man was rather shaken up. They did find his head, I believe it was a considerable way back, somewhere around the dartford area.1 -

Firstly happy birthday @MrLargo hope you've had a good one.SuedeAdidas said:No comment on this thread today.....I am fearing the worst.

No comment from me today as I haven't yet been delayed. My train This morning got into Victoria 1 minute after it's scheduled arrival. That's the best it's been all year so I'll take it.
Currently waiting for my train to leave Victoria to get home. Let's wait and see if they can make it 2 in 2. I'll not hold my breath.1 -
Mr Murder was yesterday. Still scarred by that creepiness.Macronate said:

Remember being in one of those old trains.
It was held on platform one (London Bridge) with the guard explaining that there was a briefcase on the train that couldn't be accounted for, therefore the train was to be emptied of passengers and placed out of service.
Bloke jumps on and throws the case over the wall onto Tooley Street.
"Can we fucking go home now" he asked.
Passengers got back on and train departed.
Problem solved.22 -
Thanks for the birthday wishes folks, probably says a lot about me that I got nearly as many greetings on the South Eastern Trains thread as I got from my family and friends combined!
Sorry that they appear to have marked my birthday by having one of their shittest days of the year so far. I just hope that they at least allowed Rio Ferdinand to get home on time tonight.
Useless cretins, may you be plagued by hemorrhoids for the rest of your lives.6 -

Free coffee being offered at Cannon Street this evening after the disaster of this morning. Like this mornings journey, I didn’t fancy being awake in case of another delay on the way home. Been late everyday this week and been late getting home. But it’s all worth it for the shiny new London Bridge eh......2

Free coffee!
I think everyone can agree that this makes up for everything.
Bravo Southeastern.4 -
Thats nice, everyone likes something to read while having a pissFriend Or Defoe said:5 -
Arseholes locked out a carriage this evening, and of course it was the one that stopped right where I was standing on the platform. So my slim chance of getting a seat turned into a zero chance.

Be fair though, at least they do their best to make sure there aren't any train delays on Saturdays and Sundays...........ashley said:Train from Cannon st to Orpington at 7 20 cancelled last night and broken down train at New cross this morning caused significant delay .That's Monday and Tuesday taken care of .Just got Wednesday , Thursday and Friday's chaos to look forward to .

I've had this before they've sent the same locked out carriage with the same broken window up and down the line for 4 days before bothering to take it out of service. It was another 3 working days before they replaced it with another carriage.Rizzo said:

They still claimed the train had 12 coaches even though 1 was locked out. It must have been for some statistic.1 -
It costs them nothing to lock a carriage out so they're in no rush to sort it out. They don't sell any fewer tickets, they don't have to pay any compensation. The only 'cost' is customer satisfaction, and we all know the number of fucks they give about that!2
