The author of the Bernie Gunther novels, and not just them. Gutted to hear tonight that he has passed away aged only 62, not least because I am half way through a particularly good one.
He also wrote at least one very good football based novel. Impeccable background research was his hallmark.
If you have never tried his novels but enjoy intelligent fiction in the Le Carre or Scandi genre, I recommend his work.
