My all time fav Charlton player0
-
really Kev - blimey wasn;t at the club that long ....
anyway - never forget the midweek night at anfield when his great volley was going in all day long to get a point after those bin dippers got another dodgy penalty - and grobelaar made an unbelievable save and even caught it0 -
Steve Mackenzie ..... wasn't he the boy wonder player from Cripple Paralysis signed for a then astronimical fee for a 17 year old - Malcolm Allison bought him for Man City, didn't he?
Never quite lived up to expections elsewhere - but in our Selhurst years he had that quality touch on the ball (along with Robert Lee, Colin Walsh & Morts) in Lennie the Legend's nomadic tribe.
Lennie used to say he always went for the underachievers with a bit of quality who would take their 2nd chance.
Last I heard, he was playing at Shrewsbury Town with the likes of Chico Hamilton.0 -
Yeah, I always like the type of player who grinds away and does the donkey work.
Mind you another of my top players is Keith Jones!0 -
Had many but for me Ray Tracey was a hell of a good player.0
-
Mackenzie didn't grind away (!) and do donkey work. Maybe lacked a bit of pace - but creative, great 1st touch & technique, good passer and pick out a terrific shot from distance.
Quality footballer .... who let's be honest, should have spent his whole career playing for more star-studded clubs than Charlton & West Brom.0 -
I remeber a boxing day classic at selhurst vs aresenal....
cant remember the score think we nicked a draw with pne going on off stevies knee....
always liked steve0 -

We lost 3-2 and McKenzie scored twice.0

We lost that one 3-2, if I remember Mascot.
We tore Tony Adams to shreds that day .......chanting ee- yore, ee-yore, donkey Adams.
Didn't Mackenzie score twice as we put on a hell of a fightback?0 -

Not a lot of people know this !!
But Steve Mackenzie is Tony Adams cousin.
When we had the 'Hayes & West Wickham Supporters Group' we used to sponsor him and he came to one of our socials.
Nice bloke .0 -
Good player alright....never disgraced himself in an Addicks shirt.0
-
Scored a cracker at Highbury 2-2 midweek when they first announced we were going back to The Valley and we took thousands there.
Good player and good tache.0 -

Nice bloke .
That explains all the goals he scored for Charlton against Arsenal - he was fired up playing against his cousin!0 -
He was a real quality player. I was quite sceptical when Lennie signed him because of his relative failure after all the hype at Man City. Good touch and great passer of the ball.0
-
That's the game when we used our yellow coloured away kit0
