Gray played well last night, pointless to drop him imho. And I have given up on Youga, Pards was no doubt referring to him when he said he wondered if certain players would ever find a consistent level of performance.0

I can't understand what the problem is with Youga. How is it that he put in top performances for Stoke yet is so inconsistant for us?0 -

It baffles me as to why some people think Gray should start. I don't get a programme but just looked at the official site. His stats for us are 19 starts + 8 sub appearances and FIVE goals. Of which 2 were penalties i think. How does that warrant a starting place?!0

You have to give Gray a service. His previous clubs did.
His hold up play and distribution is good.
But he needs the ball passed and delivered to him, so where's the service?
His previous clubs played to his strength - and he scored goals.
Strikers are expected to convert 1 chance in 3. Few chances = few goals.0 -
Dickson has to play up front alongside Gray or Todorov.

P.s. There's a lot of talk about strikers need service and chances created which is true but only partly so.
A good striker at any level can also score from half-chances and create their own chances out of nothing.
I can't see either Varney or Gray doing either of those two things whereas Dickson just might - he almost created something out of nothing with his first touch last night when he burst into the box.
I think a lot of us watching from the stands can see that. Why can't Pardew?0 -

I'd play a compact 4 in midfield and for width, get the full backs involved. We just haven't go enough energy in the central midfield to play with two wingers in my view.0 -
