Jimmy Seed’s house, built in the early 1930s.
It ‘overlooked’ Sundridge Park Golf club, although the view was blocked by trees.
The roof tiles were green.13 -
I had a pair of monkey boots as my legs were too short for DM'sBaldybonce said:
Possibly. Can anyone remember when Monkey boots fitted in? I can remember getting a pair in the Village._MrDick said:

Not sure about that. By the seventies everybody had started trading their DMs for higher legged ones and were wearing the uniform Harrington jacket, jeans with a small turn up or brogue(‘squire’) shoes . The hair looks too long for it to be 68 - 70. I’m probably totally wrong but I’d pitch that photo more like 67 which fits with the August 67 game mentionedBaldybonce said:raytreacy69 said:

Skins 1968/9.Dont think we played Southend then - so maybe a Bank holiday away day.Great photo tho
69 and the fashion would have been cappers and skinhead haircuts. They are wearing DMs which makes me think early 70s.Acab said:We played two pre season friendlies at Southend back in the day. The pic above probably relates to 5/8/67 judging by the clobber. The other friendly was 5/8/77 so flares then or punk.
We played three league games in the 70s two on a Friday night both in September and one on a Boxing Day which was on a Wednesday.
It could have been the first Friday game Sept72 but the fashion is wrong but somebody on here can put me right.0 -
I always had 8 hole DMs.
You can run faster in them than the 10 hole variety

This what it looks like now, unfortunately.
It was a very cold house, with no central heating, and metal window frames. I suppose changing the windows would have made the house more energy efficient.
But I loved it when JS or my dad lit the fire in the living room in the morning. The whole house would warm up slowly. Winters were very cold in the 1960s. I remember my jeans being frozen when I tried the put them on in the morning.3 -

I’m surprised no one has taken the carriage no. and said it’s possibly the 11.47 out of Fenchurch St._MrDick said:

I got my first high leg DM’s from Sams The day we beat Villa home 3-0. So that was 1970. Monkey boots about a year later.

Have seen that. I wonder what it sold for. JS was the first owner, as he was for his previous home up in north west London.SuedeAdidas said:It’s just round the corner from me......this is it now (courtesy of Google Streetview)

Sadly, this great photo apparently isn't related to football. It's on the Getty Images site, with the caption: "Skinheads arriving at Southend Victoria railway station are lined up to receive advice from police not to get into groups of three or more during their Spring Bank Holiday visit to the seaside town, 25 May 1970." What a daft order from the Old Bill! The house to the right of the picture was (and still is I think) owned by an anesthetist and his wife. Their son Stephen was may best mate back then. He went to Dulwich school. I think he lives in Scotland now.JamesSeed said:Jimmy Seed’s house, built in the early 1930s.

During WW2 an incendiary bomb went through the roof and landed on the landing (!) without exploding. JS carried it out into the street, and was later told off for that by the police. Ironic seeing he was Observer Corps.2 -
I reckon it is 67. I was at the 72 game and the fashion isn’t quite right.Acab said:We played two pre season friendlies at Southend back in the day. The pic above probably relates to 5/8/67 judging by the clobber. The other friendly was 5/8/77 so flares then or punk.

I was at all three of the games in the early 70s. And would have guessed that photo was late 60's.stonemuse said:

But I think a previous poster has said it's not football related.0 -
To reiterate.....that photo was taken on May 25th 1970(Spring Bank Holiday), at Southend Victoria Station.......and it was ‘not’ football related.0
