All the speculation is just so much self-defeating hot air. This could be brought to the very cusp of completion, with only i's to be dotted, t's to be crossed and the EFL illiterates to be slowly talked through the redtape in monosyllables. CAFC is (barely) worth what the next punter is prepared to pay. It most definitely isn't worth any made up or aspirational figure the current incuntant chooses. Roly could accept the bid in whatever form the Aussies present it, with whatever reductions, undertakings, indemnities, conditions and caveats they demand; and bring the whole thing to a conclusion. But he is a repugnant lunatic. So we wait for whatever preposterous alignment of irrelevant bullshit rd dreams up while he moves the goalposts again and again, with our fingers crossed that the rotting husk of the thing we remember as CAFC, hasn't actually deceased in the meantime.
I'm aware that this - the most popular thread on any forum, anywhere (or something like that) - attracts a lot of people who are very familiar with the takeover. People have spent more than a year forensically examining every jot and tittle of leaks, rumours, guesses, dissembling, fabrication, diversion and supposition. The motivation, wealth and travel plans of super-rich individuals from good guys in Australia to a Melexis madman in Belgium have been pored over in microscopic detail. Everyone who has made their way from page 1 to page 1116+ has become something of an expert - both in international finance and relaxation techniques required to deal with the one constant: waiting.
But I am also aware that some people visit rarely, some people aren't even Charlton fans and some people simply don't get what the fuss is about.
So here's the thing. In the 1940s we won the FA Cup. We're the only team playing in South London that has done. But we are not going to win it again this season. In the 1980s we signed the best player in Europe. But we are not going to sign the best players in South London this season. In the 1990s, we played in Europe. But we're not going to play competitive matches outside England this season. In the 2000s we competed at the higher end of the Premier League. In 2004 we finished as the third-highest placed London team. This season, we're fighting with AFC Wimbledon for the title of tenth-highest.
This season, we won't win anything.
But we are going to celebrate as if we have won promotion, the women's team have won the league, Charlton Invicta have won their league and the Upbeats have rightfully been named in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards as Team of the Year. Why? Because the life will be put back into the club the day - the moment - the takeover is complete.
Fans of other teams won't get it. Success is measured on the pitch, they'll claim. You can't celebrate a change of ownership, when there are points still to win. Wrong!
The takeover, when it happens, will be the most important thing that has happened to this club this century. And the galvanising effect it will have on the club, its prospects and its fans will be transformational. Improved crowds, better support, optimistic attitude, better press, more attention, better signings, more points, higher finish, healthier, happier future.
The most important, most worthwhile single piece of news that can emanate from SE7. So, to all fans of other clubs, here's the thing: we're going to go fucking mental when it happens. It's bigger than you winning the Premier League. It's more important than you pocketing shed loads of euros from a Champions League. This is our club, our title, our cup, our win, our celebration. And we're going to make the most of it.
Nick Hornby's 1992 book, "Fever Pitch", culminates, as we all know, with the Woolwich rejects winning the League in 1989. In it he writes about his reaction including the memory of the banter bullying and bitchiness of his friends from school and work over the years. And how he would like to see their reaction at that time. Well this takeover will be bigger and better than that.
It's so important, it's so welcome and it's going to be so transformational that I would like to say simply, "I can't wait". But, as the last year or so has proved, I can. And I will.
We are all a bit jaded and the long wait has taken its toll. But when RD goes, and he will - eventually. There shall be much rejoicing. It will be invigorating to have my club back - and hopefully owners who actually want to improve our status and get the club moving forwards again - it will be very exciting.
If £4m of the £7m is owed to Murray could it be that the Aussies are willing to roll over the£3m owed to others but not the £4m owed to Murray as they dont want him around?
I'm past the point of celebrating when he sells. It'll probably be more relief mixed with a determination to make sure something like it never happens to Charlton again.
This season was always going down the toilet if Duchatelet still owned us, takeover saga or not. If we were going to do anything meaningful this season then the takeover and season preparation needed to ideally be done before the World Cup. Remember how prepared Powell and co were with their shopping list?
It takes as long as it takes. The most important thing continues to be getting that maniac's hands off the club.

My thoughts too. This would not be the 1st time RM is blocking any such deal
Hoping it's two weeks, but it could well be more unfortunately.
Or is this a hidden message - "Roland, are you listening ? We know we are your only option. It's too late for us to put together a promotion team for this season so we are not in any hurry to complete a deal. We can wait while your debts pile up ..... unless you agree to our price NOW".
Or from Roland's point of view
"You could have bought the club in June and had a summer to build a promotion side and start your era off on a wave of optimism. Instead, because of the delays you'll go into this season with a mediocre squad (especially when Bauer and Magennis get sold in August), and start your era with a year struggling in L1, racking up losses, and then over spending in the January window to try and save the season"
Yes, but that is irrelevant as in 2 weeks, when the transfer window closes, Roland has to fund the monthly loses while the Aussies can sit back and watch the money drain out of Staprix. They are in control now.
But the longer the takeover is delayed, the worse state the club will be in. There's a massive difference between buying a club in June, and planning for promotion and buying one in September with a season of struggle ahead, especially if they have a 5 year plan. If the 5 year plan turns into a 6 year plan as a result, how does that benefit the Aussies financially?

That’s exactly why I don’t believe this is purely financial.
Will those trotting out the debenture crap please justify. What part of 'price has been agreed' as stated by both sides, don't you understand? How is a crucial next two weeks pertinent to an issue that has been bull-shitted about for two months? If you can't justify your speculation, just don't post.

Calm down.
It is quite possible that the purchase price ie what the Aussies pay Duchatelet, has been agreed but that another condition of the deal is that Duchatelet will have dealt with the directors loans and that that has yet to be resolved.
I don't know if that is the case but some people are indicating that it could be.
James Seed didn't say the next two weeks are "crucial", he said he was told that there could be "a difficult two weeks ahead’. There is no indication as to why it will be difficult, why two weeks or what the issue/s might be that will make it "difficult".
Hoping it's two weeks, but it could well be more unfortunately.
Then mid table league 1 is the best we can hope for. No strength in depth, injured players already. Its so frustrating, this club has so much potential and for one reason or another, every season is the same. Christ knows what we've done as fans of Charlton to warrant such shit times but im just sick of it. Sad.
What If the takeover does finally happen? Say end of August. I’m sure it will create a good buzz around the place. We still have the January window to make a big push for promotion. I also believe we have a much better manager this season who can get the best out of our players.
If it happens the wait will have killed of some of the excitement. Due to the time it's taken there will be a lot more fans having doubts about the Aussies, whether that's fair or not. Looking across social media over the last few weeks I've seen more comments blaming them for the delay or doubting they'll be good for the club.
Well from what James has said they have a five year plan to get us to the premier league. Think we have to hold onto the hope that it will happen.
It's not like they're going to tell the world they don't have a clue what they're doing, is it!
More chance of my mum winning the lottery than us being in The Prem in 5 years.
Hoping it's two weeks, but it could well be more unfortunately.

If that was the case then surely the Aussies would have piled in a year ago, but they didn't. They know they are taking over a distressed club but, from their perspective in terms of a 5 year plan, things on and off the field are not going to change much (provided we don't get relegated). Off the field they will probably have a good idea of the structure they want to put in place, whether last year, now or in a year's time. Players come and go but they cannot let that control their negotiations even though us supporters have a different view. When (if) they get control, they will sit down, look at each other, agree (to use a current term) 'it is what it is' and start from there.
If £4m of the £7m is owed to Murray could it be that the Aussies are willing to roll over the£3m owed to others but not the £4m owed to Murray as they dont want him around?
They could roll over his debt and still make sure he's nowhere near the boardroom, the two things are not linked.

People lie, I've also never seen a statement from The aussies saying a price has been agreed, do you have a link?

But maybe they don't want to, for all the reasons that have been explained on here time and time again!

Which has nothing to do with not wanting him around.
I'm still firmly in the 'Theyre seeking investment' camp.
The way that the comment has been phrased to James suggests to me it is they the Australians that have the difficulties, not Roland. Not the ex directors. Not loans.
So what is it that the Australians will find difficult to do in two weeks?
We have been told that the consortium needs to be less complicated. Who decided this and why?
There also seems to be the suggestion that two of the consortium did not pass fit and proper. Is this what will mean a difficult two weeks to resolve?
Maybe the two go together. By re-organising the consortium they can then meet the requirements of fit and proper and yet keep the consortium together.

Not sure how anything I've posted is sniping, this thread isn't just for those that buy into the aussie spin.

What numbers is your mum using ;-)
Of course you can argue that the chances are we won't get to the Prem in 5 years. But at least they're showing the ambition that the club has lacked for years.
They have shown nothing though, the spivs said the right things when they came in, as did RD, so let's wait and see, shall we.
Shall we? Yes we shall, Stu. We shall wait and see. In the meantime, snipe away lol.
Not sure how anything I've posted is sniping, this thread isn't just for those that buy into the aussie spin.
I want the takeover to be a success as much as anyone, I just don't see it working out like it's been said it will.
I don't think the Aussies spin do they? Not sure telling us 'it may be a difficult two weeks' is what most people would call spin. Saying 'we haven't pulled out' isn't spin either.
They could probably do with a little now as it happens. In the absense of facts speculation is understandably rife, and there's an anti Aussie element that's growing. I can see why. We're not all born optimists. Of course it might not work out the way we hope it will, but so far I'm remaining positive.

And I will.
Hold tight - it's on its way.
We are all a bit jaded and the long wait has taken its toll. But when RD goes, and he will - eventually. There shall be much rejoicing. It will be invigorating to have my club back - and hopefully owners who actually want to improve our status and get the club moving forwards again - it will be very exciting.
More chance of my mum winning the lottery than us being in The Prem in 5 years.
I'm still firmly in the 'Theyre seeking investment' camp.
Of course you can argue that the chances are we won't get to the Prem in 5 years. But at least they're showing the ambition that the club has lacked for years.
