For what it's worth I agree with @Henry Irving but for slightly diffrent reasons. I put it in the trust survey as well. The perception I have of what the trust does, is diffrent to what it says it does on the Web site.

Now that maybe unfair, but as I said it's my perception. The truth may differ but I can't be the only one with that view.

One thing we can all agree on is that we have an owner presently and for the foreseeable, despite all the cries of 'wolf,' who leaves a lot to be desired and who the majority would like replaced.

The Trust invited the Accrington Stanley Chairman, an owner perceived to be 'good' and he apparently (I wasn't there myself) enlightened the audience as to the difficulties of financing lower league football.

Garry Nelson's record of playing a double nelson of matches for us and always giving 100% needs no further elaboration from me. However that was just one part of his career. He played for a lot of different clubs and regimes, he was a coach / assistant manager liaising closely with the Chairman and he worked for the PFA to name just some of what he has done.

In my opinion, as a Supporters' Trust member, the Trust is actually doing a better job of representing me by inviting such people and taking the opportunity to canvas their experience and learn of some of the practical problems encountered in the game and how to attempt to mitigate them even if I am unable to attend these meetings in person myself.

I've been very critical of the trust over other issues but these meetings seem a great idea to me, easy to attend for many people and a great way to bring together a fractured fanbase.
I agree, nothing against the idea in itself.
Amd it's an easy way for you to be the centre of attention. Again.

I think Henry's got this one wrong - I can't see the issue. That said, I'd hardly say he was digging the trust out - he called it "a shame"... hardly all guns blazing. Pico was having an adult chat about it and then it all got a bit silly.

Anyway, personally think it's a great idea pre-match.

Can't attend this one but hope it's a regular thing. Well done CASTrust.

I don't have an issue with Q & As as such. Having run literally 100s of them down the years how could I.

As you say, it was mainly an adult debate until Iainment and others waded in, which is also a shame.
    Waded in?

You make some arcane point about a 6 year old statement to belittle other's efforts.
You passive aggressively concede it's a good idea though, although you've been doing this for a long time and imply CAST shouldn't.
And then when a mild observation is made by me you accuse me, and unnamed others, of 'wading in'.
Your petulance reminded me of a primary school students behaviour.
It still does. Your me, me, me attitude doesn't do you any favours.
This is my 3rd and last post in this thread. I suspect you'll keep it going though.
I hope those who go have an enjoyable time listening to Garry's talk.
Usual insults and snide remarks with no substance from you that aren't needed but if you feel better for getting it off your chest, go for it. You were looking for an opportunity to make yet another personal attack on me and you found one, well done, you must feel so much happier now : - )

    Oh, dear, Henry...

    Paranoia doesn't suit you, sir.

Was there a CAST survey on Q&A sessions that I missed?

Think it's a good idea, though I'd now vote 'No' in solidarity with the Cardigan King.

I have to say I don't recall the conversation Ben, but for me the Trust remains committed to complimenting existing fan groups rather than detrimenting them, and that was the spirit of comments I made in the early days.

I can also assure anyone interested that the TB discussed this in the context suggested.

I think a fans bar is a great positive in the current climate of pub closures and the clubs predicament, and that is the context of these events. It maybe presents a chance to show how prematch at the Valley could be improved.

If anyone does have a concern please do inbox me or any other member of the TB.

  • Genuine question - what were the circumstances around the original commitment? Was it something that was specifically requested, or merely a statement made by CAST at the time?

Flicked on this thread simply to see what the event was about, and have since been thoroughly entertained.
    Well done to everyone involved!

Like a guitar, or the knotted hankie he wore on his head in the Anatchy in the U.K. video? Never knew he was a Charlton fan!

In fairness, I didn't realise he played guitar or appeared in that video - clearly a multi talented chap

Next I'm going to be told he got a first class degree at Oxford ;-)

Does that include Brexit related concerns?

Of course there are no AoA. Retorical question I'm afraid. Nowhere in the aims is a commitment not to overlap other supporters groups. Not sure the original AB are even involved.

Why don't CAST have Henners as the guest at their B & Q?

    Just asking

I bet his presentations are riveting.

He taught KM all she learned on Powerpoint.
  • Blimey, just read this thread, its more entertaining than a west end show!
It would be a farce of course.

Seriously a fans bar at the Swan or wherever would be a great idea imo.

PS. I met Gary many years ago, a more grounded/humble guy you could not wish to meet. I will be there.

Hope Garry is on top form on Saturday as it may be a challenge to make the event as entertaining as this thread at the current rate 😉

Just for the record re an earlier passing comment, Trust members aren't dwindling.

To set the record straight, I am a trust member, and I am definitely dwindling.

    I love a good dwindle.

I would like to attend this event very much, Garry was the first footballer I wrote to (about his book) and he replied to me! so would be nice to thank him personally after all these years. Surgery has left me unable to get down the stairs as there's no rail, and none of my group will be going, so is there any kind lifer willing to help a poor old soul with the stairs? I also have my subscription due in Feb, so can pay that too.
  • Will DM you shortly @HantsAddick as I'm sure Trust colleagues will be able to help.

It's all a bit people's front of Judea this, next they'll be arguing about the Romans and what ever did they do for us?

Nelse is an excellent guest, I'm sure all who attend will enjoy.

There’s the rub, razil. You’ve not spent enough time complimenting Henry and the others.

”My, what a big audience you have,” would have cut it.

In other news, Garry Nelson's daughter taught me Spanish at school.

I hated her. Although, in fairness, that feeling was reciprocated...

Does your whole life revolve around daughters of former Charlton players? : - )
When the lights go down on a glittering media career, one has to do something to try and stay in the spotlight. ;)

This thread has truly reached parts others could not reach, i.e. @Airman Brown 's sense of humour zone ;)
