Garry Nelson Pre-Match Q&A Saturday 9th Feb ***CAST at the Swan***

I think it's a great idea that CAST are continuing to put on these pre and post match meets. As supporters we have really struggled to find a solid 'home' pub since Ray Woodard gave up the Royal Oak. The White Swan is the best last hope and getting more fans there on match days is a win-win. I get the points about boundaries with regional supporters clubs but nothing happens in Charlton on match days and we really need this as a focal point. Keep up the good work CAST.

We showed ‘Ha’way the Lads’, the film about Jimmy Seed’s journey into football via WW1, there last year. Very enjoyable evening, and a great venue. Chris Difford (Squeeze) was reading his book at the bar downstairs, and I only bothered him very briefly, honest.

If only there was another large venue in Charlton with a lot of spare capacity on matchdays and access to former players and VIPs, as well as the resources to put such things on.

Having a Bromley supporters club is a bit like having a Bermondsey supporters club if you ask me - a remote outpost on rival territory but shouldn’t be factored into any proper charlton equations14

Oh, did you mean the theatrical lot from the South Norwood Diving Academy? As far as I'm concerned their home territory is Croydon and they're welcome to it.0 -

Really enjoyed this. What a lovely fella Garry Nelson is! Great stories and insight into the game, which I expected after having his book for twenty plus years. Nice to finally thank him for replying to my letter about it. Hope we raised a fair amount for his bike ride. Great that he is doing it again this year.My thanks for the help I received in first getting up, then down the stairs to attend this event, they are not the easiest to negotiate, even for the fit ones. Lovely to see most of the German Addicks there, and thanks again @MadGerman for his help getting down those stairs, a nightmare for me.11

ok, I went to the Museum first, thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the items in the dedicated FA Cup winning cabinet, and then I went up to the White Swan to hear the wonderfully erudite Gary Nelson in his one hour Q and A.
Job done!0 -

It would be interesting to know why you think it's a shame.
Shame that CAST have done something they said they wouldn't do0 -

But I never claimed it would affect our numbers, please don't words in my mouth. I will say again, CAST made a commitment and it is a shame that they have gone back on it.
Is this event going to affect your BA numbers if not then yours is a moot point and I would say it wont affect your numbersSo about that rival museum I was thinking of starting
Did you make a commitment not to start a museum and then go back on that commitment? If not then it's a moot point.0 -
What we must not lose sight of with the squabbling/entertainment, depending on your point of view, is that both events together raised the best part of £1000 towards the Prostate cancer fund, and having attended both (and contributed at both) I'm proud of that! So they are both relevant and neither stopped the other from being a success.15

Swan was very busy pre-match.
Time delay in getting drinks though due to ‘stoolies’ at the bar.
