Football facts that don't sound true (but are)

Inspired by the Aguero not being a PotY conversation, what other facts do you know that sound like they shouldn't be true but are?

I'll start with a couple.

Jens Lehmann went a whole season in the Champions League without conceding a goal, and got all the way to the final.

Sergio Ramos has scored more goals than Andres Iniesta.

For many years (certainly up until the 1990’s), Aldershot Towns playing surface was the biggest in the country.....the pitch markings itself were not the biggest, hence it wasn’t the biggest pitch, but the grass area on which the pitch stood was the biggest.
Not a lot of people know that!
It may still be for all I know.
  • In 16 years, James Milner has never been on the losing side in a premier league game in which he has scored.
  • Norwich finished third in the 1992/1993 Premier League season but had a goal difference of -4.

That one surely has to be wrong unless they only started doing Player of the Month in 2015...
  • Just looked it up, the award started September 2013 so perhaps not as amazing as it first sounds.

Although even going 2 years without Messi winning 1 month is probably a surprise.

In Gaelic, Pittodrie, the home of Aberdeen roughly translates as "shit heap" ("place of manure" or "hill of dung").

Always thought that was Selhurst Park but never mind.

Despite Brazil and (West) Germany being the two most successful countries in the World Cup, the 2002 final was the first time the teams had met in the competition.

I saw a Charlton game at the Valley once, where we were losing 5-1, against a team managed by the great Bill Shankley and down to 10 men, but we won 7-6. Hard to believe  :)
