I reckon the crowd will be in excess of 80,000. Phenomenal achievement by Charlton fans, IMO
The play-offs moved to a one-off final at Wembley in 1990 and since then there have been 87 finals across all divisions: - the 2001-2006 finals were played in Cardiff, and the 2011 Div Three and Four played at Old Trafford because of Champions' League Final at Wembley.

There have been only eight matches with an 80,000+ attendance, all of them in the Championship.

    No Year Att Div
    1 2014 Derby v QPR 87,348 Div Two
    2 2008 Bristol City v Hull 86,703 Div Two
    3 2011 Reading v Swansea 86,581 Div Two
    4 2015 Boro v Norwich 85,656 Div Two
    5 2018 Fulham v Villa 85,243 Div Two
    6 2010 Blackpool v Cardiff 82,244 Div Two
    7 2013 Palace v Watford 82,025 Div Two
    8 2009 Burnley v Sheff Utd 80,518 Div Two
    9 2012 Blackpool v West Ham 78,523 Div Two
    10 1998 Charlton v Sunderland 77,739 Div Two
    11 1999 Gills v Man City 76,935 Div Three
    12 2017 Huddersfield v Reading 76,682 Div Two
    13 2008 Donny v Leeds 75,132 Div Three
    14 2007 Derby v WBA 74,993 Div Two
    15 1993 Leicester v Swindon 73,802 Div Two
    16 1994 Derby v Leicester 73,671 Div Two
    17 1996 Palace v Leicester 73,573 Div Two
    18 2000 Barnsley v Ipswich 73,427 Div Two
    19 2010 Millwall v Swindon 73,108 Div Three
    20 1990 Sunderland v Swindon 72,873 Div Two

At the moment we can stake a claim to the tenth-highest play-off final attendance.

On Sunday we should be claiming the highest Third Division crowd and getting a higher spot in the top ten.

    Fantastic effort.
    Highest at the Old Wembley!!...

Harsh to compare 1998's (even 1999) with the top ten because a further 10,000 tickets became available once Wembley was rebuilt

So that is that folks. No more tickets on sale now. Tried to see how many tickets left and you can't appear to buy them now. Not saying the last lot were sold but it looks like we had about 400 left (without wheelchair access tickets). Fantastic effort everybody. I am assuming that the club will now announce how many we have sold soon.

I had a few beers with my Serbian mate last night. When I told him the gate was expected to be 80k he was gobsmacked. He referred to it several times during the evening. This is going to break records. We could not think of anywhere in Europe where two third tier clubs could play each other and get anywhere near 80k, in living memory.
Portsmouth vs Sunderland had an attendance of 85,021 in the Checkatrade Final a couple of months ago

And how many Man City fans were double-counted when they charged back to the ground after they scored twice in stoppage time?!

That doesn't include tickets in the "neutral" seats like Club Wembley that Charlton fans have managed to get hold of too

That figure of 38,227 is only the number sold by the club.....the 2000 I have indicated are those sold by Wembley “directly” to Charlton fans....Hospitality packages, private boxes plus VIP tickets for staff, directors and directors guests etc. True it’s a guess but I think it’s about right.
I think whatever figure given out by the club we need to add a further 2000 Charlton fans/followers into the mix......so I confidently put the figure of 40 to 41,000.

With all the additional sales through other sources, eg Club Wembley, it looks as though it really will be. Mitigating circumstances for Sunderland but still extraordinary that it appears we'll have significantly more there than them for a major final.

I wonder how many tickets Sunderland have sold for this:

Would certainly be cheaper than traipsing down to London.

  • What have Sunderland sold?
If the final was in Newcastle how many would we have shifted?

Whatever our allocation would have been in that much smaller ground of course...

you don't count Soundas, lets face it you and others like you sitting in your lounges quaffing wne are not really 'proper' Charlton fans. You're part of the vol au vent scoffing 'Football Family' brigade.

    38,227 Proper Charlton there. FACT
