The Takeover Thread - Duchatelet Finally Sells (Jan 2020)

You don't need to be a psychiatrist to work out that Duchatelet is not the full ticket.Blucher said:I think that Duchatelet must get off on messing around: the Australians - by moving the goalposts; Lee Bowyer - whose popularity he may unconsciously envy or resent; and the club's supporters - who he probably delights in tormenting by way of revenge for his self-inflicted humiliations.
Part of this may be attributable to a personality disorder - certainly the need to assert himself and show that he's somehow in charge - and part of it may be explained by wealth-related arrogance - i.e. "I can afford to sit this out unless and until I decide otherwise". Easy to do, of course, if you don't care about the fortunes of the team or the club, which he demonstrably doesn't.
Roland would be an ideal candidate for the old Radio 4 show 'In The Psychiatrist's Chair' but, sadly, Professor Anthony Clare died in 2007. I can imagine the latter asking: "So when you saw that disconcertingly realistic papier-mâché model of you ....or when you were subjected to the eviscerating cross-examination of Simon Jordan on TalkSport, how did that make you feel, Roland ?"1 -

He wouldn't go to the play off final as he was scared and feared for his safetyTalal said:
They were a tad more aggressive with their protests. RD was probably in genuine fear for his safety whereas I'm sure he doesn't feel that with us.irudd123 said:
Didn't the Standard Liege fans do that too? How long did he mess them around because of it?nth london addick said:
Not unless they are doing it without clearing the debtScoham said:Takeover done next week apparently 😉
because that will take more than a week to sortCafc43v3r said:
As far as I am aware he hasn't "played" with his other clubs, why us?nth london addick said:He doesn’t care about money he doesn’t care about losing money he is past that point of personal wealth the asset has a net value he is happy to mess around with it probably helps against his tax liability having a loss making company that has a decent value on property and land
He is a vindictive spiteful old c u next Tuesday that’s all
when he grows bored of playing with us he will sell not before
There are hundreds of valid reasons to slag him off why invent more? I actually don't think his capable of any emotional out put at all.
Because we took him on and beat him embarrassing him here and at home his little I know best football experiment has failed massive
now we are an irritant and he will play and annoy us until he is ready if he was money motivated he would’ve cut his losses and run over a year ago
Interested?1 -
I'm reasonably certain that it finished then as well (the Orange commemorations were mostly over a century away).Dazzler21 said:
The war in Ireland continued until October 1691 (with Jacobites holding out in the West of Ireland against the better trained and equipped "English"/Williamite forces - William's army was international - led by General Ginkel once William III left, with Limerick successfully defending the first siege of the war), until the signing of the Treaty of Limerick in 1691 following the Battle of Aughrim (and the loss of Athlone and Galway).
The French officers assisting the Jacobite forces complained bitterly about the conditions in Ireland, including about the quality of the beer (Arthur Guinness mucking up his London Porter was still some decades away).
Not that I did a dissertation on this or anything...13 -

All the good from Wembley has now washed away, I don't know what's more depressing, this thread, Chernobyl or how bad the new Black Mirror is.3

No inside information at all but I’ve got a feeling something is going to happen today, be it involved with the takeover or news about Bows, I’m not sure but something seems like news will be announced.3

Raining now in Belgium but plans will continue regardless

Fingers crossed it's both, obviously with him signing and a takeover happening but more likely the opposite knowing our luck.Sage said:No inside information at all but I’ve got a feeling something is going to happen today, be it involved with the takeover or news about Bows, I’m not sure but something seems like news will be announced.0 -
RD has done nothing good at Charlton - the man's only pleasure is to spite us so don't expect good news.
I don't believe he genuinely wants to sell the club.0 -

That is ancient now. We have gone past that stage now1

My wife was flicking through the TV channels last night and as she couldn't see anything of interest she pulled up our Sky recording of the play off final and we watched the 2 Charlton goals again. It just so depressing going from the highs of that day to the lack of positive news just over 2 weeks later.Rothko said:All the good from Wembley has now washed away, I don't know what's more depressing, this thread, Chernobyl or how bad the new Black Mirror is.4 -

If I wasn't the first person to say spite, I was the first to say he shows elements of wanting revenge in his comments.
@Blucher is correct, you need to be a psychiatrist to try to get inside Duchatelet's head (a dangerous place to be!)
Envy and resentment can be added to the glossary Because despite being worth 500 millions he has failed to be accepted as a politician or as a good owner of a network of Football clubs around Europe.
Duchatelet is totally nonplussed by this as in his mine he is a genius.
To the voters in Belgium and to Charlton fans who love the club with a passion, he is an eccentric old man with bad teeth and foot ware.
We know he is a miser, because unlike the odious Phillip Green he doesn't splash millions on his own birthdays. He goes to his local restaurant and gets 25% off with his pensioners card. Plus one of the few comments Meire said that was believable was he asked her the cheapest way he could get from London to Charlton by train ! (Told to Bromley addicts)
Duchatelet's praise for Wilder and not Bowyer until that last statement informs that he is envious of Lee success in the last year. Wilder was his choice and Bowyer got the job because he was already the coach in situ.
How do you beat or get rid of him ?
Give him an exit strategy where he thinks he's won. If it means the next owners have to roll over the ex directors loan for the 3rd time, so be it (I would imagine we need 100% agreement from the 7 for this to happen)
Money is his Raison d'être in so much it gave him the platform to be a Politician and Football owner.
He failed miserably in both endeavours.0 -

Henry, hope you will sample the delights of La Chaloupe D'or in the Grand Place when you are there. I don't know if they still do it, but when I lived in Brussels in the early 90's, you had to deposit a shoe with them if you ordered a Kwak beer served in the mini yard of ale with wooden stand. I think I read they are doing that in other bars nowadays because so many glasses get stolen but back in the day it was a quite unique.Henry Irving said:
