I personally think some people forget that yes Joe shone but it was in League One and he's never played above that level. At 200/300k then he's a risk worth taking but there was hardly a queue of Championship or PL clubs after him. In my opinion I don't think he's good enough for the PL and would be a slightly better than average player in the Championship. I've never really rated him as highly as most on here do. I wish him well in the SPL but I can't see him making a move from there to the EPL.

The claim was never that he came out of their academy? Don’t be salty for the sake of it.
Aberdeen would be mid table Championship. Like a Nottm Forest or Sheff Wed type.
Kilmarnock just got promoted from League One and will do well to survive this coming season. Similar to a Barnsley.
Hearts and Hibs are nothing special right now so on current performance might battle for League One play offs?
The rest are Shrewsbury/Rochdale/Scunthorpe level at best.
Also, this is talking about the current squads going straight in as is. If Rangers and Celtic were actually playing in England the size of the clubs would make us do very very well there with tons more money than we'd have now.1 -

Has Aribo even gone anywhere yet?1 -

Pretty confident that if he stays injury free he'll get more than 16 in one season for Rangers.
Scott Arfield, no exactly renowned for goalscoring managed 11 in 29 games last season.1 -

I don't see Aribo scoring 16 goals in one season here tbh. You're also selectively including his stats as a 19 year old compared to Arfield close to his prime who is a Premier League midfielder, renowned goalscorer or not.0 -
RFCAM said:Rangers fan here, just wanted to give a Rangers perspective on this transfer. Seems to be a lot of talk about if it's a good move for him or not. Gerrard has done a very good job at Rangers so far, so chat that he hasn't isn't really true. And while I agree that Scottish football isn't the best standard, it's not as bad as you like to think. Several posters have also commented about how talented players come here and go to waste and we don't produce high level players?
Just an example of the players to come from Scotland in the last couple years: Andy Robertson, Virgil Van Dijk, Victor Wanyama, Steven Davis, Stuart Armstrong, John McGinn, Moussa Dembele. Also have players like Alfredo Morelos, Kieran Tierney, James Tavernier, Callum McGregor, Tom Rogic, Odsonne Edouard, James Forrest, Scott Arfield, Glen Kamara, David Turnbull, Scott McKenna, Connor Goldson, Kristopher Ajer and Allan McGregor who would all cut it in the Premier League as well and have been attracting that level of interest. So suggestions that his career will waste away in Scotland just isn't true.
Rangers are a huge club who are only improving, we played 14 European games last season and should have qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League but still did well in our group. Celtic did make it through. Old Firm games are a big draw and even teams like Aberdeen, Kilmarnock, Hibs, Hearts and even Livingston are getting better and making the league more competitive.
Basically, between playing in Europe, competing for trophies for a huge club and a good stepping stone to the EPL on a good wage in a high pressure environment with a huge media presence, I don't see how Rangers are a bad move for the boy. He seems like a top player though and it sucks for you guys missing out on a big development fee but by the sounds of it you don't seem that bothered about it given your owner. Aribo is expected to have his medical today so hopefully it's all wrapped up soon!3 -

All of the players I mentioned are same age or older and have Champions League or Europa League experience while winning trophies. I really don't see how you can say Aribo is further on in his development.1 - Sponsored links:

Didn't Celtic have Leigh Griffiths upfront the other year? Can't quite imagine him banging them even for a mid-table PL side at any point in his career. There's one or two players now and again from Celtic that do well in the PL, but Cetlic would be bottom end PL and Rangers Championship in my opinion.0

That's pretty much what said.
It's a different kettle of fish.
In all seriousness...you are 100% right and I really see this as a solid bold positive move.
I think it also suggests Aribo is tough lad who is willing enough to do something that will give him a dramatic life changing experience...like sign for Rangers.
He is not afraid to try something new (even though he doesn't have to)0 -

I feel like I've provided enough examples to show why Aribo can come here and have his career go well. Rangers haven't had as many pathways to the Premier League in recent years due to obvious reasons but we're getting back to it now with many of our current first team being able to make that step up now.0 -

Steven Gerrard has confirmed to @SkySportsNews
that Joe Aribo is currently having a medical with Rangers. Hopes to have him join up with the squad here in the Algarve in the coming days. #RFC

You all know how good he is by now cause you've made in excess of 10 different threads about the lad and watched every single compilation of him on youtube. Anyone with common sense knows it's a step up, the only thing winding up some Charlton fans is Rangers claiming to be one of the biggest clubs in the world when you're not. Basically Sunderland residing in Scotland. The biggest clubs in the world don't sign league 1 and 2 players to play for their first team.
He will do good for you, Steven Gerrard is a wizard etc. Good luck in the league and now I don't see the point in anymore posts?
Isn't our player anymore unfortunately, would be under different circumstances that's that.9 -

Bad move for him. A 10 handicapper at golf gets better playing against and with 0-5 handicappers. Not against 28 handicappers. He might stand out against Kilmarnock but I bet he goes missing against Celtic.
at the end of his career, I hope he won’t regret this0 -
@RFCAM i think you will be pleasantly surprised with aribo even with you already seemingly rating him. Last season was his first full season in league football really and he was outstanding.
It is very difficult to get past him, he can drive forward and pick a pass and score a goal. Not a number 10 but bags and bags of potential.
Being young and inexperienced he can drift out of games and look a little languid but if he keeps him improving and learns from Gerrard he will become some player.
I fully expect him to be a £10m+ player in the PL inside 2 years. Our loss is your gain and i can only wish him all the best. I will follow his career with interest.0 -

Every chance that he can continue to progress up that way. Look at van Dijk. Yes, for every VVD there are 20 Joe Dodoos but can you blame an ambitious kid for believing he will be the 1 in 20?0 -
All I'm saying is it's still not confirmed.
But it may be soon.1 -
It's done and dusted. I'm not in the know but I'm fairly confident we have seen the last of him at Charlton, frankly I can't wait for it to be done now, sick of all the clickbait articles etc. According to one Arsenal have suffered a massive blow losing him to Rangers...I don't know one Arsenal fan who really wanted them to sign him and I probably know more Arsenal than Charlton, journos.
