Todorov and Gray barely beat walking pace as their top speed, if we could get McCleoad and Dickinson on the same pitch with speedy players out side them and solid players in the middle we might be OK, But Bailey and Holland are lightweight so our Central Defence just launch it loooooooong, so I am looking forward to Leeds next season.
  • rubbish varney cost us more points this season than our back 4 and that is saying something

Exactly, and in the deep shit that we are in, why are we letting one of our better forwards go to a championship rival in the first place and then to be replaced by a striker that couldn't even get in the Sheff. Weds first team.

We need a new manager now and I personally hope he recalls Varney and sends Burton back!

The problem Varney has is he got himself into goalscoring positions this year and missed some crucical chances - however not one other forward we have in the club would even get into a goalscoring position if they spent 90 minutes on the pitch on their lonesome!
  • you cant go by the last 2 seasons in comparrision to Burtons

I dont rate Burton at all but the faith in Varney is based on what??

What did Luke Varney do for us in the last season and a half

Well if I remember right before McLeod got injured he missed a hatful of sitters, there isn't this hero worship of him? I'm not his biggest fan by any means but I don't buy into this Varney superstar bullsh*t.

NLA, with strikers, it's all about confidence. If we get a different, motivational manager in, who knows what he could do with Varney. (look at Darren Bent and Harry Rednap!) Varney scored plenty of goals for Crewe!

Red Army - I don't think any of us think Varney is a superstar, but he's better than what we've been left with.

I didn't say prolific, but I'd like our strikers to have a 1 in 3.5 ratio!

  • Thats the problem Varney has no confidence in his ability at this level, I heard it from Millsy and thought it was a load of bollox i have since heard it from another current squad member, he needs his home comforts he didnt have them here and he couldnt believe that he was at a club that had premier league ambitions.

Varney didnt do it for us he did it for little old crewe where it was not expected.

forget about him he will not be back

he done nothing for us and could be here 10 seasons and wouldnt get past 50 goals

What's that, 1 striker scoring and another winning a penalty in a game with naff all service other than long hopeful hoofs up to them? I mean, Varney was really good when we lumped it up to him, I've lost count of the times he lept through the air like a salmon controlling the ball on his chest turning two players and smashing it in the top corner.

McLeod is poor for this league, never been impressed when I've seen him. Has pace, can win a few penalties and free kicks, but no football brain, not a great finisher and is very average on the ball.

Varney is easily a better player, but neither are going to be regular goalscorers at this level. Varney showed last season he should have scored more goals than he has this season. Pardew made a mistake calling him his 'main man', and continually playing him with Gray even though it wasn't working.

It shouldn't have been a penalty (mcleod was falling over) and burton did his best to miss

Varney never missed a penalty for us either .... and didn't take them - but has scored more than McLeod and Burton this year .... and his strike rate for Derby is better than Burton's for us!

he did in the cup! but shhh!

do believe varney has considerably more assists than them both too!

    Goodnight good sirs!

    He didn't miss then! ;-)
  • varney's gone because he's the only forward we've got/had who can raise some money (whether it's for transfer funds or pardew's pay-off). There's no way in the world we're ever gonna anywhere near £1.1M back for mcleod - we can't even get him out on loan these days FFS! We'll have to pay a club to take him off our hands....
