I was hoping he was the one who'd won the Euro jackpot - and now the new owner of Charlton Athletic.

    2) All Palace and Millwall supporters to be purged from the council

Putting party allegencies to one side, congratulations Rick. I’m sure you will do your utmost for the people of Thanet and as someone else has already said at least they have a leader with integrity.

Ha, I actually raised the disgusting state of Botany Bay toilets with him last year.

”you’ll be delighted to be informed that in my lifetime of non league, Sunday football and general public toilet loitering, the public toilets at Botany Bay are without doubt the most disgusting thing I have ever seen in my life!! 🙈“

I got directed to the Tories / UKIP...

    First objectives councillor.... :-)

I will be making spot-checks on said public toilets during my half-term break in the People's Republic of Thanet. I shall report back. In the meantime, "ooh, Rick Ev-ritt, ooh Rick Ev-ritt." Good luck in running a minority Council Rick.

Not if it wants to empty the bins and clean the streets at all in future. The council is very skint.

Thanks for the kind remarks. In Thanet we have come to expect the unexpected, but Thursday was a surprise even by that standard.

There are at least half a dozen Charlton supporters on the council - and someone else who works for CACT - so perhaps we should form a Valley Party administration.

    Congrats Airman,

In the early eighties my parents took me to Broadstairs and to Manston Airport as I had a big interest in aviation then.

At that time I remember old cargo Bristol Britannias and outside, the remnants of rotting RAF light aircraft (herons, they may have been called).

On my last trip to Broadstairs about 10 years ago, we drove past and a 747 was taking off.

See Charlton fans aren’t all trainspotters!

Anyway, my question is, what does the future hold for it?

After tracking a few times a year, I see a report that it may reopen at some point. Though from what I’ve read over the years, sticking houses on it seems a more likely option?

Thought your bandwidth on CL was a bit low in recent weeks, was going to drop you a line to see if you were ok. Delighted to hear this, which probably explains it.

Wonderful to contemplate that this comes soon before the 30th anniversary of the campaign you spearheaded which nearly took out the Leader of Greenwich Council :-)
  • Congrats @Airman Brown you won't need me to tell you what a thankless task you've taken on.

Everybody and their uncle thinks running a local authority is easy and they could do it in their spare time and much better than those that do it. 99.9% of them haven't got the first idea about the reality of what's actually involved and the challenges councils face in the best of times. And these are not the best of times.

Good luck Rick, you'll need it squire!
  • Congratulations Rick.

I come into contact with elected Members through work, and even up in these parts, we are now seeing younger, committed people taking on what can be a thankless task for scant  reward, people with real world experience who want to do good and make places better. Unfortunately no Labour councillors where I am though!

Used to be widely regarded as one of the most crooked, inept and corrupt local authorities in England so good news for Thanet.  Congrats and good luck.
  • Apologies to MrOneLung and thanks to AFKA/ moderators. I was pissed.....
