As much as I've loved this site...

...I wonder if it would do us all some good if it shut down for a few weeks to draw breath and remember our priorities.

It has become a sounding board for snipes, depression, despair and masses of unconsidered communication that just winds everyone up into near hysteria.

I've been avoiding coming on here a lot because seeing so much in fighting gets me down. We are all Charlton.

Happy clapper or not, I'm not silly enough to think our predicament is down to the fans but we do need to pull together.

Happy New Year my fellow Addicks and may we get out of this predicament with dignity and renewed resolve.

COYR.

Agree Sco - this site was so much better when it was cream-crackered and nobody could get on it. I blame Lookie for fixing it!

Seriously though, it just seems that the same old people are posting the same old stuff on here over and over again. If there's nothing else to say then why just keep repeating yourself - it makes no sense.

Might just give it a break myself for the next week or so - have got enough on my plate to worry about without reading ever increasingly hysterical posts day after day. It's not doing anyone any good chaps.

    See ya.

I'm starting a new job on Monday, so perfect time to give the place a miss especially if we lose to Forest (cue Billy Davies is god type posts)

I've read a little bit of that, which is unsurprising given the nightmare currently engulfing CAFC.

But I've read far more comment that has been considered, informed, intelligent and well-written by people who care deeply about Charlton Athletic and are in real anguish over what is happening to our great club, and are seriously and constructively trying to analayse what has gone wrong and work out the best way forward out of this mess.

    Same old same old.

Unfortunately some people have to resort to personal attacks if they disagree with other opinions.

Unfortunately - a message board for football fans is always going to reflect what is going on on the pitch and at the club. At the moment things arent great and due to people's passion for the club the views are reflected on here. Despite some of the posts and discussions we may not agree with there is still much quality debate and humour - you just need to find it!

    Happy New Year Everyone.

I think that's fortunate, WSS! We wouldn't want a board that had no relation to events in the real world...

The unfortunate thing is that there's not much positive happening in that real world just now...

Happy new year to you and here's to better times to come and their reflection in a happier, more upbeat Charlton Life ...

I'm with Nigel on this one. Whilst you will always get shades of opinion and some who can't stop themselves presenting issues along the lines of "I'm right or have been proved right, you're wrong and are stupid for being so", the majority of posters on here have been genuinely expressing their love of the club through their anxiety for the present predicament and fear for the future, in measured tones. What is surprising to be honest is the generally lack of personal animosity most of the time even when people take differing angles and I find this refreshing.

I can't deny that it has been somewhat depressing on here recently but hey, we are adrift at the bottom of the Championship, have recently sacked our manager and just appointed his No 2 after a period of no wins in 8, the club is clearly short of money and crowds are dwindling. What else could we expect?

That said, I and most others remain totally addickted and will continue to support the club through thin as well as thick. I feel at least a decision on the manager has been made and I'm looking forward to the battles to come.

it's not the site that's depressing it's what's happening to CAFC that's (quite rightly) getting us all down. This site is providing a necessary sounding board for all of us. Does a bloody good job of it too imo.

Sco - your post caused me some panic as this site has helped me to wile away a fair few work hours during the quiet Christmas ( and actually the 2 years prior to that). I find the tosh and the pointless squabbles more enjoyable than the sensible comments.........even I could write something on the current state of affairs but some of the crap which is written takes great skill imho.

Sco, what you have to realise is that this recent bout of miserableness is not something that has come out of the blue, some posters have clearly been putting years of practice in for these very times, and its only right we let them excel at their peak !

lol - I wish I was the author of such an inspired post. The post is a belter not only does it include the word Nincompoop but is also a totally unreasoned rant predicting our drop to oblivion - classic!! More of the same is needed to take this forum from strength to strength ..................
