[cite]Posted By: nigel w[/cite]Agree about Pringle, but not about Bartlett. Thought he did a superb job for us and was hugley under-rated - esp. when he was playing up front on his own in a 4-5-1. Apart from Bent (D), can't think of anyone who has done that better for us in recent years...certainly not Iwelumo or Gray.

Bartlett at 36 or whatever he is now has more talent than any of our strikers with the exception of a FIT Todorov.

I thought Holland had an excellent game and is a real leader. Have to say though Norwich strikers were pony. They lumped the ball up with no movement. I thought they were awful, worst side I have seen us play. They looked as bereft of ideas as we have done lately. If we still can't beat a team like that at home, I really fear for us, they were there for the taking big time. Any other Championship team would have stuffed them. Sorry to be so negative, I really can't see where a win is going to come from now. Next week is absolute crunch game.

I thought Jonjo was man of the first half, faded a little in the second. I thought the little we saw of Dicko was encouraging. Holland did a great job at CB. Moo2 looked worth his place.

Holland was easily my man of the match- he brought real leadership to the team- I thought at the time that Pardew was wrong to strip him of the captaincy and today just cements that believe. Burton comes in for a lot of unfair stick- He may not be a goalscorer but his reading of the game is good- look how many clever passes he did today which found his own players in space or putthem into threatening positions- He needs a striker who can feed of him. Gray is by far the wrong player to have alongside him. I would have liked to see him and Dickson together. Shelvey had a good game. Me thinks we should play a diamond with him just behind our two strikers and someone like Holland sitting just in front of the back four.

Holland was absolutely immense today. Well impressed with him. But then he's a proper footballer - will play anywhere and do anything for the team.

10 Matt Hollands out there on the pitch and we wouldn't be f*cked - like we are now.

[cite]Posted By: ShootersHillGuru[/cite]Holland was MOTM by a country mile. Speaks volumes inho. Burton was isolated up front on his own and did ok under those circumstances. He was well played by Gary Doherty who aint gonna get mugged by a loan striker.

Damn just realised someone stole my joke about him being permanent.... unless of course you mean lone striker ;o)

[cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]With Hudson out, who was skipper today ...... Holland?

Aint it funny since Huds has been captain we have been cack barring 4 games, matty comes in as captain and bam we apparently play well and he gets MOTM

[cite]Posted By: ShootersHillGuru[/cite]Too small and not an answer in any way to our central defence problems. However. He will be good enough in Div 1 next season to play in midfield or preferably as a sweeper.

He's the same size a Chris Perry.

Holland was MOM, he was excellent. However it has to be said that Norwich didn't really have anyone up front. Not sure Matt would survive against Iwelumo and Ebanks - Blake.

If Matty was superb as sweeper, then Fortune must have played his part alongside him.

I always think of Fortune as the sweeper in a CB pairing, and not the one to go for the first ball in the air.
However, that would have had to be Fortune's role with Matty alongside him - so how did Forts play?

Steady on Oggy Fortune is a scapegoat a la Kish or Lisbie.

We're not allowed to praise him only slag him off!

Fortune had his usual solid game. I liken Fortune, a little bit to a referee.

IE You know he's had a good game when you hardly notice him, because he hasn't done anything wrong.

I really don't think he's that bad, I'm hoping he stays fit, doesn't get replaced in the January window and proves he's one of the better players at the club.

He was decent as a squad player in the Premier League, should be one of the best centre backs in the league.

    Bring back Kish!!!!!!
  • Great stuff from Holland, played brilliantly. At CB he doesn't have his usual tendancy to pass to marked men and put others in trouble, I'd like to see him as a proper old fashioned behind two centrebacks sweeper. It worries me that

Burton was awful. The constant offsides were ridiculous.

*trot forward and stand 20 yards away from Marshall, in no way impeding him or pressurising him*
*when ball is returned by our defence/mid trot back giving nobody any opportunity to pass to him and so leaves isolated winger desperately trying to do the holdup job he's supposed to be doing*

Tries hard and all that, but worst player I've seen at the Valley in 15 years, unless my memory has blotted out some other horrors.

I thought Burton did ok to be honest! You have to remember that playing up front alone isn't easy. There are much bigger worries in the side in my opinion.

Agree with you about Holland, but not Burton.

I am no fan of his at all and didn't want him signed permanently, but I actually thought he did ok on Saturday, won quite a few balls in the air and his hold up play was reasonable. He also linked up well with Jonjo. Strange how we see things differently isn't it!

Agreed, I thought that Burton put in a good shift. Playing up front on your own it is very easy to get isolated but Deon managed to stay well in touch with the midfield. I could name you at least 20 players worse than Deon Burton I've seen play for us over the last 3 seasons!

Had no probs with Burton's performance, its what i would expect from him.

But the facts remain, we just don't have a goalscorer.
