Other than 2-3 people that I do speak to, who now work in other teams, I can honestly say that in my 'team' of 80, there's not one person who I would want to sit and have a beer with, let alone sit down for Christmas dinner with them.
(It doesn't help that more than 50% of them don't drink alcohol and aren't allowed to shake hands!)
Something like this
Is the colleague opposite you giving you one word answers or offering very little back when you ask him something? Yes, probably best to leave him alone.
Is he asking you any questions about yourself? No, probably best to leave him alone
Also, I work in sales, so he's coming out with all the fucking cliches at the moment as well. 'Let's make some money', 'I want to get some decision makers on the phone' and so forth. Utter utter shite.
It's been a long year. The last thing I want is a lunch on Friday, trying to politely engage in irrelevant drivel.1 -

I think we are being shipped off to a venue from all three offices for approx 2 or 3 hours, then shipped back again. This is on the 23rd! Sounds distinctly underwhelming, but I never look a gift horse in the mouth and will duly stuff my face1 -

Had mine in the workshop the other night, Puccini playing, copious amounts of water sunk and a good time had by all. A great time with great people, meself 😉 -
PS - If anyone knows how it's possible to drink in excess of 20 pints of lager in one sitting, but struggle to drink 4 / 5 pints of water in the same time frame, I'd love to know6 -

The reason you're struggling to drink that water is because it has wood shavings in it.21 -

I am reminded that my Old Man was made redundant many moons ago just before Christmas. The much despised boss told him he could still come to the Christmas Party, which was not a good idea. As the boss concluded his Christmas speech to his employees in The Copperfield in Catford and wished them all a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, my father poured a pint of Guinness over his head.21

We're going to the Tommyfield in Kennington tomorrow - anyone been there? I liked the reviews and menu choices and put it forward as an option so hope it is good!0

Years ago, and sadly it is years ago I worked with people I genuinely liked and I think liked me. Our Christmas drink ups were a lot of fun as it was a chance to do what we did every day anyway which consisted of taking the piss put of each other and chuck some beer in for good measure, we had a good boss who would have a few and fuck off when he could sense it was time.
This years was a strange one, my boss turned up coked up as did two other bosses, two of my newish team mates blatantly banged each other at the hotel a load of them booked, there was a real intensity to get absolutely arseholed from a lot of them. Now the reason this is odd is because a lot of these shithouses spend the day bitching about each other and have created one of the most unpleasant working environments I've been a part of. I normally look for excuses not to go if anything is outside of work time but as I'm fairly new to this job I showed a bit of willing and drove. In a way I'm glad I did but I wont be bothering again. Like someone else said, its time away from people I like, love or just dislike less than most of my colleagues.
Oh and people always want to talk about fucking work at works events involving booze. And nowadays you really can't get away with punching people even outside of works time, which genuinely happened a few times back in the day and as far as I can recall ended whatever was bubbling up2 -

I have already heard people this morning bitching about each others behaviour last night and was even asked by someone on my team ask me if i saw how much someone else on our team was drinking over lunch!
This is why i volunteered to cover the desk0 - Sponsored links:

The dinner is this evening, a group of us are finishing work early and having pre dinner drinks. So 5 hours of drinking before meeting non drinking colleagues for dinner. What could go wrong.1
