  • Here in Kent, there is a weird wavey rainbow all round the sun and everything is covered in a fine reflecting cystalline snow. It looks as though tons of Xmas glitter are being thrown down, never seen anything like this in my life. Very stunning effects but guess that's not much comfort.

WSS rececalled : "Not that it should matter considering the state of some pitches we have seen over the years!"

New thread on the worst pitches we've ever played on?

I seem to remember an FA Cup third round game (v WBA at the Hawthorns?) where one goal mouth was a quagmire of mud. We had what seemed destined to be a certain goal with the ball about to trickle over the line with their keeper stranded on his arse several yards away. And it just stopped on the line, trapped in the glutinous muck. They won 1-0.

I have it on good authority that Curb It had the ref ,inspecting the pitch, in a headlock outside the ground this morning on her way to the station and warned him that if the game was called off there'd be big trouble.

lol ledge. I walk through the heights these days but as i left home i did consider walking past the ground to try and make a point.
  • i have it on good authority that burton and gray are doing the inspection, so don't expect a report on the state of either penalty area.
  • i heard it was sam so that rules out the byeline.

Bristol rovers are giving their fans free bacon sarnies to get their pitch ready for tomorrow, think they've all got to get on their hands and knee's and breath real heavy on it!!

at least the sun is out and trying to do it's best. I'm desperate for this game to go ahead (even though I think we are well up against it).

On a serious point, if they pass it today there is nothing to say they won't call it off tomorrow. A very heavey frost is forecast tonight. An 8am decision tomorrow makes more sense to me.
  • the lovely weather girl on gmtv said it could get as low as -7 in SE London tonight....

  • Could be tricky to assess. Though there is bright sunshine, the air temperature has dropped since 8am, and what were puddles on the path have frozen over now. I don't know how that equates to a football pitch in a stadium. but I doubt it will help the decision

Looking at the temperatures on her map, I think the weather girl in the picture might have got it a little bit wrong! Ha ha...

Chirpy does have apoint...(never thought I'd say that)....Just because the pitch may be passed as playable today it has little bearing on what may happen between now and tomorrow afternoon.
    I'd expect a mid-day inspection.

I think Suzi's down there at the moment seeing if it takes a stiletto.....
  • I know this is a long shot but clearly the chances of the game being played are in the balance...

Anyone considering going down The Valley and reading out the minutes of the strategic review on the pitch?

All that hot air might just have an impact...?

Obviously it might not mean the game goes ahead tomorrow just because the inspection is passed today.
All the club can do for now is check there's a possibility of the pitch being ready. If they didn't and the game was called off tomorrow there'll be loads moaning that it was obvious the pitch wasn't going to be ready so why didn't they check yesterday and call it off earlier........No win situation again.

    Who is doing the inspection?

I thought the ref was the one who does it?

probably draft in a local ref, Steve Bennett maybe, to do it.
