Because of the transfer ban and selling Hazard, they made about 100m profit on transfers last summer, then add in all the tv money and CL money from this season and i can't imagine they're struggling too much. I'm sure Lampard will get well over 100m to spend in the summer.
Although the transfer ban forcing them to play the likes of Abraham, Mount, Tomori and James has saved them an absolute fortune. They also have Hudson-Odoi who is going to be brilliant and they have Loftus-Cheek coming back from injury.
I've been following Kieran Maguire on Twitter for a while, but I only started listening to his podcasts on Sunday. I think you are the kind of fan who will appreciate them. I might be able to find the particular podcast that I got this from and post it. They have clearly dealt with Duchatelet in the past , there were some passing references in the recent podcasts I devoured.0 -

Coerced may be more accurate.1 -
I want him back!

Watching that short film of Gallagher has gave me different emotions.Proud that we have and always will be a huge part of his development, he will have a special place for us in his life. Proud also that we have such a fantastic club, both staff and supporters, that enabled that to happen.
Gutted that it’s been taken away and for me he and his family were clearly disappointed about the whole move as well. Yes he’s living on his own and being a more independent adult that way, but in terms of long term development and his happiness, leaving was not the right move. They also said Swansea being in the top six, when I can have a bet there’s no way that’ll happen this season. Both teams will be mid-table Swansea higher, but so what?
Ultimately, I really wish him all the best and want him to succeed personally. He has a huge desire to play and do well at Chelsea. I want him to fulfil that dream and potential and we can all look back in years to come knowing our great club played the very and biggest important step in that.16 -
What a cracking young lad he is. Wish him all the best, always played with his heart on his sleeve for us even when those around him had far less quality then he has. This kid will play consistently at the top end of the Prem for many years and will pick up England Caps. Would absolutely love him back on loan next season if his Swansea loan doesn't pan out, hopefully this time he would have some better players around him.
Cannot help but feel sorry for the kid because it is plain to see he was loving life at The Valley and his development over such a short period was incredible, hope this short sighted move from CFC and his agent doesn't stunt his growth too much.
Good luck CG - top player.9 -
@Chris_from_Sidcup
the Price of Football podcast on Chelsea was released on 16 Jan , soon after Chelsea released their latest accounts. It's what Kieran does, go over club accounts. The main insights I now recall, are:
- Yes we remember whom they've sold but not t whom they've bought. Kieran said seeing the sum spent was a jolt, because he struggled to remember on whom they had spent such vast amounts
- the revenue has dropped greatly because of their failure to be in UCL. He reminds us that prize money works out 80% UCL, 20% Europa League
- Abramovic habit of firing managers costs them dear
- then comes the discussion about RA himself. Not been to a match for two years, but then came a typical nugget. He paid for his private box at Stamford Bridge. How much? £1m per year, that's how much!! Must have been a tax thing, but anyway he doesn't pay that now.
Well worth a listen, however we think it might affect CG.

Chelsea jumped the gun. Did they truly assess our situation? Players back to full fitness now, he would still be a starter but he wouldn't be being as heavily relied on as over the Christmas period.
Seems like he's slightly struggling at Swansea. Shame.6 -
I reckon we might stand a chance of getting him back next season but we will have to insist on him ditching his agent
I only wish him the best but him not doing so well at Swansea may send a signal out that we are a better bet than them to loan players to.

Are you sure the recall was done for financial/agent reasons @PragueAddick ?
I heard there was another unsavoury possibility over the weekend.

‘I was training with Charlton literally yesterday. Now I’m with the Chelsea first team. And later I’ll be at Swansea. It’s mad but that’s football’
He didn’t seem too happy about it tbf11 -

His performances dropped dramatically when Josh was out for us.3 -

Wonder if we'll try to get him back on loan next season?
Swans fans don't seem to rate him or at least a few noisy ones on twitter but maybe he's not playing as well for them.
He's young and he's human.
Some players do well at certain clubs but struggle elsewhere and there could be lots of reasons for that; homesick, team mates, expectations, tactics, coaching, not having @Tracey to keep an eye on him etc etc
Worth remembering when judging Smith.5 -

He's played 90 minutes every game since going there, so unless there's a clause saying he has to play every game, then he can't be playing that badly because at the very least he'd be subbed off.1 -
If he's played every 90 minutes since going to Swansea, that blows any excuses that Chelsea or his agent were worried about him getting tired out of the water a bit.
I hope we see him back in a Charlton shirt next season. I have a feeling Villa may go in for him, whatever league they are in, and the John Terry connection may help. I read somewhere that they were interested in January but couldn't take him as PL rules say you can only loan one player from another PL club and they already had Drinkwater.5 -
