Question for Season Ticket Holders

Guys - I have a big presentation in June to a lot of Football League chairmen and board members based on the wonderful world of the WWW, mobile phones and IPTV.

Simple question - as a Season Ticket holder, if you had the opportunity to watch every home and away game from your club, 48 hours later via your computer and internet connection, plus get all goals and match incidents sent to your mobile phone - how much would you pay / month for this privilege before you felt it was too expensive?

A) Nothing - though you wouldn't mind your season ticket going up £50 for the season
B) £5/month
C) £10/month
D) £25/month

Cheers for any replies - it's just a very straw poll to help me with my presentation.

Only considering it for season ticket holders for now, but good to know on the pricing expectations for non season ticket holders for the future.
  • None of the above.

I signed up for CAFCTV for the whole season and I've only used it about three times. I wouldn't use the service and I would not be happy if my season ticket price went up at all given the quality of the product.

I wouldn't pay for it - nor would I expect my season ticket to go up either.

I wouldn't pay anything. As far as I'm concerned I pay enough already for my season ticket. In the current financial climate, I expect the price of season tickets to go down not up. For too long football fans in this country have paid too much to watch an overhyped product. The chairmen that you are addressing need to focus their attention on how to cut wage bills accross the board, not on how to milk a few more bob out of the fans. I firmly believe that players wages will kill football in this country if something very serious isn't done.

I'm not really interested in watching on my phone - even if you've got a top of the range phone (I haven't) you'll still be watching on a miniature screen. Anyone that thinks a phone is for serious viewing needs to get a grip of reality. I guess the computer option might be ok for some, but again for me with the technology I have, I don't wan't to pay to scrobble all day. I have not paid (and will not pay) to receive match commentaries that used to be free to air.

I used to like the away games option that was on Sky when we were in the Prem and didn't mind paying for that. The difference is though, I was getting widescreen technology. Now we are down with no chance of a return and money is tighter, I'm getting rid of the Sports channels as it isn't viable for me anymore.

I don't think my mobile supports video playback?

Maybe if you could copy the goal to VHS Video Tape and post it to me, I could watch it then?

If not, then none of the above...

P.s. Instead of charging per month, you could charge 'per goal', or 'per incident'. That would make it much, much cheaper for us Addicks...

Errr....I could be wrong but don't Virgin Media offer this at the moment and it's free?
  • The computer idea is no-good for me (I don't own one !!)
but I'd go for the £5 monthly-video of the goals sent to mobile.
  • I think it should be part of the price, as an award for what we've had to put up with!

Or a new feature of CATV (no price increase)

If it was a service outside of the club than £5 a month.

    As stig said.

Also as i don't have a TV,i also don't have a mobile phone that can receive pictures so there isn't much point.

More money for football - no chance
  • Should be offered free to all ST holders as an incentive to get one. Football clubs as a whole need to start being a lot more savvy about this kind of thing and stop taking ST holders for granted - use of smartcards, proper priority booking and loyalty systems, matchday transport, that kind of thing. Instead, they're geared towards squeezing more cash out of them ("watch our latest defeat on CAFC TV!", etc).
  • Wouldn't pay, don't want it. They can forget all the frills and bribes, a decent game of football would be enough for me.

I would pay £25 a month. I pay £13 for Setanta and would certainly pay to see my team play

The problem is after this season ST holders are going to be few and far, adding cost to the ticket after the last three awful years is going to be a further disincentive

Thanks Guys for the feedback. I understand Sunday was not really the best time to ask the question considering our performance the day before and our current form - but I think I can glean enough information from the replies.

I'll let you know what happens in June!

Good luck, Clive. I don't think this forum is very representative of your target audience! We really don't want to watch the full 90 mins of another hopeless defeat... :-(

I am about to cancel Sky sports because I don't watch enough to justify, this type of thing , a £10 credit to me to watch the adverts maybe.

I'd probably pay £10 or so to watch my team. Although if the results are like they have been, I'd probably want them to pay me!!
