Had a nice donation of 1955 Charlton autographes today but I was more excited when I turned over the page and found the signature of this 1940s and 50s icon.

Those of us of a 'certain age' used to have 'I Spy' books and the idea was to 'spy' the items.
'Big Chief I Spy' was the overseer of all this and had a cartoon column in the Daily Mail (apologies in advance for any apoplexy caused by use of such language) and other papers too I believe.
A kind of early day Pokemon collection thing except ours were real and there were no cyber stations and gymnasiums etc.1 -
Some people have no sense of history.
I was more of Ladybird book fan but I-Spy was a big thing in the olden days.

Generally I think I have, apart from a slight recollection of the books it means very little to me.0

I had a couple of i spy books, one on motorways, one on trees!
The motorway one awarded points for spotting gantries, emergency phones etc0 -
Phew what a relief, I thought this was going to be a RIP thread.0

I have to say that in all my years on this planet I have never heard of i Spy Books.

Ladybird books.
i-Spy books.
And there were also 'The Observer book of.... (whatever, birds, bridges, cricket, trains and stuff)' which were good for kids reading.1 -
I thought to be a Charlton fan you had to complete the whole of the trains I-Spy book correctly.0

He was an Apache Native American, 2nd cousin to the one and only Geronimo. His 2 great great grand sons, Running Mouth and Talking Bollocks, made their $Billions selling their own patented teepee design to campsites for middle class people to go glamping in, in England and, rumour has it, they're Charlton fans (After their grandad advised on a Charlton Hestom Weatern film once) and they've been looking at the situation down The Valley with a keen eye for quite some time now.....1

I remember going to a scout camp at Gilwell Park (77 or 78) and Big Chief I-Spy was there, selling his books and signing them. I don't have them anymore but I suspect he spent a lot of time signing that.0

I vaguely remember iSpy books around the mid 50’s.......I think my brother and sister had some.0
