IOS update IPAD, open in background/new window

Recently updated, before, to read a linked article etc used to open a tab in new window, since the update it’s now allowing me to open in background, but it appears to do exactly the same as open in new window, can anyone explain what the difference actually is and why or if I should do one opposed to the other?

Cheers, but my question is they dont appear to do anything different to each other, they both open new windows, just wondered why the differential, I’m probably over thinking it, if it works it works etc

Here’s an explanation.

Basically if open in new tab it takes you out of the article currently reading whereas in background it is ‘saved’ for later
