Did a decent job for us.

    No wonder Bowyer is frustrated.

No one can blame him for wanting to be off. If I was a player at Charlton I’d be seriously looking at getting away if only to protect my future income. They may have affection for the club but no real loyalty especially when it comes to protecting their own futures. Lockyer and Matthews are just the start of the exodus. What and who we’ll be left with is anyone’s guess.

Good luck for the future Adam and thanks for your efforts. You tried.

Yep. The days of looking at the glass and seeing it half full are long gone because the glass is now smashed on the floor and all we can do is watch the liquid drain away into the ground.

A shame, really liked him for us but it was expected. Don't blame anyone leaving at this point, why on earth would you want to stick around with the way things are at the moment?

Thought he was very good.  Do we have a youngster coming through at rb?  Can Sarpong-Wiredu play there?

Yeah think it's been mentioned he can play down the whole of that right hand side

Might have to play down the whole of that side if we can't make any signings.

Even if we weren't a basket case him leaving would make sense. He's a Championship level player, he'll be looking at the Euros and he can play at a higher level for more money. There's a lot of teams in the division who would do very well to sign him. He did well for us, he was an excellent financial signing considering we essentially swapped Dijksteel for him and I hope he goes on to do well
  • Matthews has been a really good signing, I wish him well and thank him for the effort he has put in for us.

On a side note, we do get through quite a few right backs!

Sounds like the entire defence is going to need replacing , if not the whole team.

Oshi can play right back as well, but he will probably be Locks replacement.

I guess it's not really the sentiment, as hope he does well as he came in from basically no where and just made the spot his own and consistently one of our better performers and welcome back of course

But... his career suggests him playing as many games as he did for us is a bit of an anomaly, so probably for the best we aren't stuck with his wages next year. I don't think it's the hardest position to fill for a team. Lockyer replacement going to be far more of an issue

    We're so fucked.
And so are the majority of league 1 clubs. Some teams have less than 10 professionals at the club. We have been shafted by esi, most clubs in our Shitty league have been shafted by covid.

We are fucked but to a lesser extent than others.

Really? There can't be many sides out there who are more fucked than we are.

We don't know who owns us, who is paying our bills, 6 months into ESI and not a soul has presented anything that the EFL have deemed worthy to accept, we're under a transfer embargo, and as things stand we can barely name a full XI for next season.

Bowyer said yesterday if Elliott hadn't stepped in we'd have gone into admin, but we know (or at least are pretty sure) Elliott himself doesn't have the money to fund us. So wtf is actually going on?

Matthews is much better than league 1. Should be pushing for a top 6 in champs

Of course, he is ...... decent number of international games, plenty of European experience with Celtic. Played most of his football with Cardiff in the Championship and Celtic winning everything in Scotland. Even a season in the Prem.

He just had a rotten time at Sunderland, injuries and face didn't fit.

For a free transfer, he was not only quality but a bargain for us.
A footballing full back who had good attacking qualities and can cross a ball. He'll have decent Championship clubs chasing his signature.

It's not surprising he's leaving Matthews was one of our best performers once he cemented his place in the side, he will be missed, but can't imagine he wanted to play in League One or on League One wages.

Matthews did really well. Bet he’s relieved to be out of the madhouse. Good luck to him.

So frustrating to see Matthews will be leaving, especially in the unlikely event Sheff Weds get docked points which keeps us up, Matthews on a free was one of the best transfers in a long time.

All out of contract players will leave.

Sad about this one of course, he's a great player at championship level, he could easily have been in a team in the top 6

Yes. How many players do Wimbledon have as one example

Probably more than we do once the out of contract players all walk and anyone worth anything is flogged off. How people think we'll be able to put a team out that resembles a senior team next season I do not know. It'll be the U23 squad with whatever remains of the current first team squad.

We had struggled for years to get a competent right back to compete with Solly.

Matthews was definitely the one, a very composed intelligent defender with decent recovery pace when needed. Going to be missed.

Christ, that’s a level of poetic description I don’t normally associate with Charlton Life!
