Squeeze O2 5th December

Squeeze are headlining London's O2 Arena in its first socially distanced event.

The venue will re-open its doors on December 5 for the gig, marking its first show since March.

The band will play some of their biggest tracks on the night and will be joined by special guest Leon Tilbrook.

It's a welcome return for music fans who've been unable to experience live music for months, with the O2 introducing new safety measures to ensure guests are kept safe throughout the gig.

The venue is enforcing social distancing as well as paperless tickets, hand sanitiser, contactless payments and masks which can be removed once your seated. To find out more about the O2 Arena's safety measures go to the website here.

Squeeze burst onto the music scene with 1978's Take Me I'm Yours and followed it up with Cool for Cats, Up the Junction and Labelled with Love to name a few. Their most recent release was 2017's The Knowledge, which marked their 15th studio album overall.

Tickets for the show will go on sale at 10am on Friday, October 9 via AXS.com.

The stuff I’ve read about the gig said you have to wear a mask at all times in the O2, unless eating or drinking. I think gigs for me will have to wait until a post-covid era. I’m not trying to watch a gig through fogged up glasses!

Funny enough the album put together by Chris Difford 'The Song Club' comes out on this day.

Inspired by the photography of nurse Hannah Grace Deller all proceeds will go to the Royal College of Nursing Foundation’s Covid-19 support fund.

Single out now, 'Working on the Frontline' by Jessie and the Leonards, rap section performed by nurse Hannah.

Indeed. Or just eat throughout the gig.

    Money grabbing karaoke.
Tilbrook betraying his original fan base with stupid pricing as usual.

So is Tilbrook betraying his original fan base with stupid pricing or not?
Tell us the prices if you know please, because I can't see them listed anywhere.

    Pointless comment.

What price would you say is reasonable?
    £20, like many contemporaries?
    £30?
    £40?
Or, going on past pricing £50+ for all the pearl necklace karaoke fans?

    £20 for Squeeze ha ha.
I'd guess about £45, but with all the extra Covid costs it could be higher.
Bear in mind artists don't get much income from record sales these days.

Yes, last time at Shepherds Bush, probably about 5 years ago.
    Seen them a few times.
Tilbrook has also played down the Anchor & Hope on occasions if you're keen to see him for nothing/very little.

    Yes, I know
Have followed the band religiously for many years.
Been zooming most weekends with Chris and know Leon well.

But prices have risen beyond their loyal fan base to cash in every Christmas to earn them £80k++ each for a short tour.

A in H Gigs are great (I've seen most) but rare and not Squeeze

Interesting, I lived next door but one to Chris for 15/20 years when we were kids.
Although I knew his mum & dad Sid & Isobel better than him, as he never hung around the estate.
Married to Cindy with kids, last I knew (IIRC).

Whats the capacity going to be?

Spill your pint some time did he?

How much input do you think artists get on the ticket prices?
  • I won’t pretend to know anything technical about putting on live music but I just don’t get the ‘karaoke’ comment.
ive seen squeeze a few times over the years and the recent additions of Steve smith on percussion and Melvin ??? on steel guitar would point to using less pre recorded track (if they were before). Also add Yolanda Charles fits really well as the bass player.
id say the only time I’ve thought ‘that’s a bit too pre loaded’ was at the Albany warm up gig when there were some focus on visual effects on the backdrop.

I think they said just under 5k ??

  • Always enjoy a Squeeze gig and don't recall ticket prices being extortionate.
My wife saw them back in the day, when Jools was still in the band. Which she never ceases to remind me. Bitch  ;)

Or simply eat and drink continuously during the concert.

    edit: already done...
