Calling all believers

Is there anyone who still believes we can stay up?

I accepted our fate months ago, what worries me more is what will happen to us in League 1.
With all the loanees gone back, any player with a bit of quality sold. No more parachute money. I have no confidence for next season. In fact, i fear we may be in another relegation battle.

Cue all those who will call me a doom-monger. They called me that at Christmas, when i said we will go down.
As i said then. 'I'm not a doom-monger, just a realist facing the unpleasant facts'

you say what you see(without rose tintedness) and the truth hurts , it's been a slow gradual slide and where it stops nobody knows , next season wont be an exciting year in a new league with new grounds, it's gonna be a tough one and the football will get worse

It is hard to see who would want to stay of our players who are any good, yet they are the oneswith bad management who have taken to this level. It does hurt to say so. I think most of us with our heads believed we were down but our hearts wont admit it and still part of me wants to say no we can stay up, but sadly we wont.

I havent said much about our prospects recently but I will now.

We're down and I have thought it for a while. We are not good enough, other teams are picking up points, we don't have any luck (it seems) and we can't score goals.

We under estimated the championship and there is a danger we will do the same with league 1.

It is a tough division and character is as important as skill.

That is what worries me we can't have a repeat of out last relegation which has snowballed into another one. We need to prepare better for next season.

is there anyone that thionks we have a chance ... even my heart says no
  • Not me Kap. We are as dead as a dodo ! Would prefer to send loanees back and play our players tbh. The loanees won`t be around to help next season so why not blood the players we will be forced to use next year. The results might be embarrassing but we are embarrassing as a team with the loanees playing.

I too gave up the last vestige of hope last night and I'm already fearful for the next season. There's not even carrots at the end of the tunnel.

Sorry, but we have massively under-achieved. I can't accept we didn't have the players to stay up. Because of the quality of players in our squad, us being down at christmas wasn't a fact. We're down now, but that doesn't mean we never had a hope at christmas.

I reckon there's an England football team comparison with charlton. When england under-achieve suddenly everyone says 'well we were never good enough, and obviously the players are just all worse than we thought. Terry, Gerrard, Cole, Rooney, Lampard are all just average players'. It's a cop-out, imho.

If we had a couple of strikers that could score goals this team would be so much different.

Gave up hope when Parky went permanent. He talks sense, and seems to have the backing of many of the people around him. Nothing against the man, I did what the board said they would do and judged him on results.

Last night was a game 100% lost by the manager. Reminded me of Sheff Wed away. One up front hopelessly isolated and being given no chance of collecting aimless balls and a midfield with not one single specialist wide player in it.

People who slag Dicko off for last night simply don't understand the basics of football. He's not a hold up player (that indeed was Parky's main reason for NOT giving him a chance a long time ago) so deciding to play him up front with no wingers to stretch the opposition defence was tantamount to popping the three points in the post up to Donny. To sit and blame players that he selected playing in a formation that he instructed them to, is the mark of a desperate man, out of his depth and unable to arrest the nosedive.

3 straight wins, starting Saturday & we are right back in there.......Watford is an easy 3 points & then we need to do "Swindons" against Reading & Wolves!

We can still stay up MATHEMATICALLY so why give up . When we can't then chuck in the towel.
Remember Donny are close to top of the current form League. If we lose Saturday then it looks mighty grim.

It's unlikely we'll stay up, but it's still possible. Stranger things have happened. Why give up before you absolutely have to?

These posts gave me a much needed giggle. Cheers guys.

For some unknown reason and a possible loss of sanity and distinct lack of beer on Tuesday (which is very unlike me during week night games) I still left the game thinking there is still an ickle glimmer of hope. I'm normally a glass half empty kind of woman.

I believe we could maybe stay up there are 30 points to play for and west ham and Portsmouth in recent years have rescued themselves - Though as before I know it is unlikely we'll save anyone let alone ourselves!

we're down, I agree that all the loans should now be sent back, only play Charlton players and lets see what some of them are made of.

I fear we're also in for a struggle next season, I can't (at the moment) for one minute see us doing a Leicester !......ask me again a couple of weeks before the season starts and I'll be full of optimism!!

the whole misery of this season will be compounded if/when Millwall go up..

I'll still be there though with my season ticket, 30th year in a row and counting....

    (Oh yeah...and what Mortimerician said!)

And the reality is we're not down YET. Admittedly it's going to take an unprecedented run of good form, but then in 1998 I would never have believed you if you'd said we were going to win 10 games on the trot towards the end of the season.

Admirable optimism from you fella but it's over. The team that won those 10 games had more guts and talent about them than the current lot could ever aspire to. This lot would struggle to win 10 games over the course of two seasons...
