"When I mentioned Eccleston he said Millar looks less exciting"

    Well this is depressing.

I asked a Liverpool fan I know about Millar.

    - He's been doing ok this season, probably his best for them.
    - Feels he was never seen as much of a prospect and doesn't have a high ceiling - can't see him making it in the top flight.
    - See's him as a wide forward rather than a winger or poacher.
    - Works hard but not particularly technically gifted.
    - Sounds like he's mobile but not quick in the way someone like Doughty is.
    - Doesn't score enough goals (see screenshot below).
    - When I mentioned Eccleston he said Millar looks less exciting but perhaps he's a late bloomer. Has been on loan before so at least has some first team experience.

    His Liverpool u23 stats:

1 in 3 to 4 games sounds good. Where is he playing in the under 23’s?

Sounds like another Washington. On that description, not what we need but Premier League fans have a different expectations of players to those of us stuck in League 1.

Worth remembering that Leko, and there are other examples, was not highly rated by West Brom fans, but he won most of us over.
Also sounds like a slightly younger Paul Smyth...
Smyth down one flank, Miller down the other... Aneke or Washington in the middle in a 4-3-3

Maddison | Williams | Schwartz kept on the bench - Sounds perfect :)

And then Sorba Thomas joins so we can leave out Maddison and Williams completely :)
  • I thought many on here were done with the Millars...

Looks the same style and stature as Smyth.
    Who... Darth Vadar?
    I don’t get the joke.
And for the record; I’m very much pro Bowyer.
i was making an observation. Hence the ?
some of you are seriously touchy fuckers
  • It'll be interesting to see what Bowyer/Gallen think this kid can bring to us that Smyth and Maddison don't.

Sounds an exciting player. Looking forward to seeing him play. That many goals from the wing is impressive and what a pairing him and Maatsen would make on the left! Captain of the Liverpool under 23’s suggests that they have high hopes from him. He will not be one that we have got in for free and I bet a few Championship clubs would have been in for him.

It doesn't matter who we sign (being realistic  ).
Unless Bowyer changes his defensive mindset ( he won't)
We shall have no chance of promotion this season.
In fact I have already written this season off.
Next season is a different matter. With a good summer transfer window under Mr.Sandgaard I expect us to walk league one next season.
Wheather Bowyer will be here to oversee this I have no idea.
How does a good window, change Bowyers mindset? I think its 30/70 Bowyer still being here at xmas

Better players able to play in different systems could change a lot. Just look at how much our shape and way of playing changed just from Alfie getting injured. We changed our formation and our mindset. Find a replacement for Alfie and some squad depth to play that way consistently to plan for suspensions/injuries/loss of form and we could see a return to 4-3-3, quick counters, crossfield balls and the midfield being able to get more of a foothold in matches with outball options.

Liverpool forward Liam Millar has completed a loan move to Charlton Athletic for the remainder of the season.

The 21-year-old heads to The Valley having also signed a new contract with the Reds, extending a spell with the club that began when he joined the Academy in 2016.

He links up with Charlton as they continue to chase promotion from League One, with Lee Bowyer’s side currently sixth in the table.

Millar has captained the Reds’ U23s team so far in 2020-21, contributing five goals in 14 appearances in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy.

His performances for Barry Lewtas’ U23s also earned him nominations for Premier League 2 Player of the Month in both September and November.

The Shelvey deal with Liverpool finally sees us net a youngster from them.

  • Good luck kid. We need some pace up the top of the pitch and hoping he will be able to make a difference.

Hopefully he can provide that spark, in honour of his Dad. Could be real Gaffer material.
