Anyone calling for a 1 man attack is mad IMO.
We need all the creativity AND goals we can get whilst we are defensively rocky.

so no new signing then?2

I think we've all been omitting him from our squads! Bowyer included... But surely he should be in/around it!
Rightfully he didnt. Probably for the 1st time in 2 or 3 years we have people not playing, or even making the bench, at all and every single one of them gets better the more often they don't play.
Gilbey was poor in his second game but the longer he was injured the better he got. "As soon as Gilbey is back etc etc. The same has happened to Oshilaja. A lot of people demanding he plays are the same ones that said they hope he never plays again in October. Purrington should" never ware the shirt again" Blackpool away, now the same people wonder why he didn't start at Hull.

@Garrymanilow your post on page 61 was bang on fella.
Really can’t see the point in coming on here every day and repeatedly posting how shit you think Bogle is. We get the message. I’m not going to defend him in any way as it’s perfectly clear that for whatever reason it is just not happening for him at Charlton and for both the club and his sake it’s better that he move on, preferably in this window but neither will I waste my time tapping away at my keyboard reiterating the same point over and over and over again. To be honest it seems some people have far too much time on their hands.3 -

With Oshilaja, what doesn’t make sense is Bowyer trusted him in the Championship at centre back but not at league one level?1

Why you would have these two and not play them is beyond me. We play best when attacking with quick passing, ie against Wimbledon for the final 20 mins.
It would be nice if when he does come on, Maddison is still on the pitch, especially when we need a goal.
Has Williams started consecutive games this season? He certainly hasn’t been give a fair run and has only played one half at the same time as Maddison and we scored 4 and conceded 0. I think @up_the_valley is spot on) or the teams that he picks; and as you now have it in your mind that anyone who does not want Williams to start is not giving their own view, your mind is now closed on the matter. Fine.
For the record, for him to be in my starting eleven we would have to be down to the bare bone. Try and find a team sheet of mine that shows him starting.
Glad you agree about Williams and Maddison, which kinda proves my point about him coming on as a sub. As does the performance the last time Williams started a game.
I am not a fan of the diamond or 4-3-3 unless you have the players that can make that work. Both systems put a lot of pressure on the two in the middle of the four and the work required is extreme. I don’t think we have those midfielders, (which is why he is playing Maatsen in midfield), and even if we did, playing twice a week would be a stretch but achievable. Attackers are going to be straight onto defenders so you need a good platform of mobile players. Pearce and Pratley are not mobile enough.
When (if) we have a fully fit squad then I think we do have the players.I would prefer a 4-5-1 or 3-5-2 at the moment because I believe it would suit the players we do have available, and tighten up the defence and I think Bows should have tried it from the start by now. We would still lack pace in midfield. (and I would still not want Williams to start😉).0 -

thought this thread was to discuss transfer targets not the merits or otherwise of Bogle, Gilby, Oshilija, Barker etc

Washington spends a lot of time out wide roaming the channels, not really much difference0 -

What is surprising is that the u23s who were ahead of him haven't even had a sniff of the bench when we had zero fit experienced center halves.0 -

Chris_from_Sidcup said:I don't know why we don't give Bogle a couple of U23 run outs (assuming you can play overage players) to get a goal and build his confidence back up. He's clearly behind Schwartz, Aneke and Washington so isn't going to feature much but no harm in giving him a reserve game.
Bogle would do well to.spend some time with Euell and learn from someone who played a similar role at a top level.0 -

I have given up on this thread, I will come back when someone posts some rumours, rather than slating Bogle, which is now three threads this is happening on0
-
Logged on and saw 48 unread posts on this thread whose title is "January 2021 Transfer Targets". So naturally I was expecting some 'rumours' or some copies of tweets about 'rumours'.....but no, just post after post of slagging off Bogle, or discussing Deji and Bowyer. How silly of me to think this thread was about TRANSFER RUMOURS!!! Fucking hell, I've now seen another thread entitled 'Bogle', how many threads does he warrant!
Any chance this thread can stick to actual rumours? Just asking!5 -

Even by Charlton standards this is quite unique.7 -

Fickle is the word I think.Oshilaja is a decent CB. He’s played shit before but wasn’t we playing him out of position? Also, he’s behind Innis, Famewo, Pearce in the pecking order but with two of those out injured, and himself now being fit, he should be starting. Not Pratley at CB.I’ve personally never got the Purrington bashing and Gilbey was good before his injury, so i was expecting better things from the latter when he returned.
"Gilbey was good before his injury" is something I have seen repeated over and over again. He played 2 league games IIRC, one he was slightly better than OK, the other he had a western.
Gilbey was good for MK Don's, and before, but I think "he was good for US, pre injury" is a liberal interpretation of the truth, at best.
Gilbey vs. Crewe (A) scored 7.41 in the CL Statbank. Second highest mark for any CAFC player behind MoM Alfie Doughty.
The next game he was played out of position and scored 5.69. A big drop off yes but even then, that was still the second highest mark of anyone who pulled on a red shirt that day (Washington scored 6.53). Everyone had a stinker and Gilbey was no exception.
Since he returned, I don’t think he’s got near a top three. That’s the drop off that people are talking about, they didn’t make it up.2 -

We need all the creativity AND goals we can get whilst we are defensively rocky.A 4-5-1 does not have to be defensive. It depends on how and who you play. Several are calling for Chucks, Maddison and Williams (Millar for me) to start. Will that not mean five midfielders will be playing? If it makes you happy, call it a 4-3-3. But if you think they will all be able to stand around up front waiting for the ball you are madder than mad March hare having mad moment.0 -
BACK TO ACTUAL TRANSFERS:
We know that the two new signings bought us up to the limit financially. It seems likely but not yet confirmed that Levitt has gone back.
I suspect that we need to move a few more people on first, and that any further transfers in depend on other clubs doing some business first.
Wheels are no doubt turning and phone calls being made but I don't expect to see much business done until towards the end of the month now.10 -
