47 years a Charlton fan, my son, Ben, 25 years, neither of us could face going to the Valley today so we went to Park View Road and thoroughly enjoyed the match. 2-1 to Welling. Harry Arter hit the bar in the first half. Commitment, honesty and good humour from the players and both sets of supporters. How sad we didn't miss going today. Christ, I never thought it would come to this.

  • I've been a fan for 41 years and it's never been as painful as this.

Only football, I know, and it won't keep me awake at nights but I am concerned as to how far we're going to fall without significant investment. We're going to see an exodus of players at the end of the season (admittedly some mediocre even by League 1 standards) but who are we going to attract. Can only hope some of the younger players come good because we're going to rely on them if the club is to stabilise.

At the rate things are going in a few more years the annual pre-season friendly with Welling will be a league match.
