The team that went down in last place in 1980 managed 22 points in 42 league game. although that was when you only got 2 points for a win.

Based on 3 pooints for a win that equates to 28 points.

After 36 games this season we have 27 ponts - we should easily beat 1980's low....or willl we ?

the worst team but, by far, not the worst players. That is why Parky should go.
  • That Large is spot on.

The squad that went down in 1980 had a core of good players and went straight back up again the next season after Mike Bailey go them better organised. This squad (which has a few good players but is overall spineless, characterless and leaderless) is bound to be largely broken up and rebuilt on little resources. So the outlook for the next few years could hardly be more dismal, especially if Parkinson is retained to do the job.

I think the players are probably finding it hard to believe we can stay up, just like we do. I mean people on here gave up ages ago, surely the players see the same things, but are expected to keep going and never give up.

There's a fair few players there who will leave and do well for other clubs, and everyone will be saying "why didn't he do that for us?".

Said for a while we're not a team. It's been a bit better recently (that's not saying much), but it's not easy when our only real options for changing the squad are loan players. Then you've got players that haven't played much this season, know they'll most likely leave in the summer. How can you build a good team and improve team spirit with a squad in a mess like it is?

Players like Todorov and Weaver must be just waiting for the season to finish so they can find a new club. Holland, Zheng, Fortune and Ambrose will be considering what they'll do, they won't want to play in League One, even if they'd like to stay. Soares and Butterfield must just happy to get regular games. Moutaouakil and even players like Fleetwood and Sinclair must be thinking they're never going to get a chance here. Youga clearly doesn't have the confidence he had around a year ago when he was on form and came back from Scunthorpe.

You could go through most of the squad like that, no surprise we're not performing really. Too many problems there that can't easily be solved in the middle of the season.

    I'm nodding sadly.

Well, maybe he could have chosen his words more - carefully, but he said it exactly as he saw it.
And he does have a point.

It's been a nightmare season for supporters - but players too.
Maybe, there's a few that don't give a shit. But most are professional footballers who just want to play.

When we were successful over the past decade or so, we all pulled together as a club - players, management, Board, and supporters.

But recently it's the disharmony and the uncertainty from all sectors that's destroyed us.

Everytime I hear about how charlton supporters have pulled together and backed the club at its lowest points in the past (i'm too young to have experienced the back to the valley stuff myself) I find it really hard to imagine the same thing happening this time. That's the saddest thing about this whole thing, and i really hope i'm wrong.

Maybe we should rotate all our players fora month at scunny, they seem a lot better at motivating palyers than we do.

But quite right! I must admit to be an invective user myself, hardly qualifies as 'an objectional character'.

maybe that was down to the manager he had at Scunny. Send Moo2 there for a month and he'll come back a worldbeater.
