He got a round of applause start of 2nd half from us when he walked to the goal - he was a complete bellend at the end of the match - I remember it so wellSporadicAddick said:
On the plastic pitch, and he behaved like a tosser...Not sure he even got any "ex-player" stick (in fact quite the opposite)Lordflashheart said:
One thing that pissed me off about him (and he was I agree a very good keeper) was just after he went to QPR - we had an away game there, and he was playing - QPR won I think 2-1 - and when the final whistle was blown he turned around to us away fans and gave it the big one in terms celebration - I was down the front of the terracing and he was right in front of me - it was like he had just won the FA Cup - well over the top and unnecessaryBartramBlitz said:Nicky John's every time. Brilliant keeper.
Hated that plastic pitch - I remember a night game there in the (I think) Milk Cup when Trevor Francis came on as sub a scored twice in quick succession to win it for them - the bounce of the ball on that pitch was ludicrous
Loftus Road is a rubbish ground - I remember playing Fulham there, and when I got to my seat it had zero view of the pitch - right behind a floodlight pylon !!1 -
It was Falco and Byrne (per Home and Away book)Simonsen said:
We lost 2-0 (John Byrne for them?) I didn't see that because I was stood on The Loft that day but that's daft.Lordflashheart said:

The Milk Cup game was actually on grass. Francis scored two excellent goals (after Williams had put us one up). One of his goals was an overhead kick. Martin Allen got Peter Shirtliff sent-off too.Lordflashheart said:

I think they’d switched back to grass for the cup game. Francis was superb that night, scored 2 great goals.Lordflashheart said:

I was on the terrace behind Johns for that game. Absolutely no reason for his reaction at the end, he’d got a decent reception from us. Was very disappointed as he was a favourite of mine and was a very c**ty way to act.0 -

Along the side of the pitch the ground is okay. However, behind both goals it is an absolute shocker.

QPR had their plastic pitch for six seasons, starting in 1981-82 (their Cup Final year).
I saw Charlton play 3 times on it; 0-4 (Johns had a bit of a mare for us), 1-5 and a reserve game 0-5. Good record eh?0 -
I was at the 4-0 game. Venables off side trap and that terrible plastic pitch. I remember a young blonde haired lad made his debut ...Barry Little?? Didn't go back to see a CAFC v QPR game at Loftus Rd until the Nabby in the last minute game 35 years apart. Crap ground but great atmosphere being close to the pitch.1
