According to the KM:

Charlton have signed Cameroon striker Rudolph Douala on a pay-as-you-play deal until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old former Sporting Lisbon player had been with Portsmouth until his release.

He had spent most of his career playing in Portugal.

Manager Phil Parkinson, who watched him play for Charlton Reserves at Southampton last week, said: "He's worth having another look at. He's come to us on a pay as you play agreement, so he will cost us only wages."

Just saw that, if it's true it'll be a good time to try him out and see if he's worth signing on for next season. He'll have to prove himself to earn a contract.

To be honest, i'm not quite sure i see the point.

If he does play, and doesn't cut it, we would be paying out for a player we don't really need to be.

If he does play, and does well, he will get himself a Championship club for next season.

That's what I thought as well. Doesn't make a great deal of sense to me.

Or C, he plays, doesn't cut it and we sign him for next season as a partner for Burton.

And what if he turns out to be pretty good?

    What then?

I suppose the only sense i can make of this is from Parkinson's view, what happens over the next month may well determine whether he himself is retained for next season, so the more tools he has to achieve that, the more chance he has.

Or maybe D, he plays and proves himself useful enough to earn a contract for next season.

Or am I being too positive again?

If Parkinson decided not to sign him, to save money, then he went to say Palace and did well, everyone would be moaning why didn't we see he was any good after he played in our reserves.

It's not even been confirmed yet and if he signs he might turn out to be an improvement on what we have.

we needed to first try players contracted to us : McLeod and Fleetwood. Plus Dicko needs to gain all the experience he can get. Strange signing.
  • Surely the club would insert a clause as part of his deal that we retain first option on his services for next season should he prove to be a success? Although with our club at the moment, who knows?!

Agree with this, we should try and integrate these and plan for next season.

I know what you mean but problem is McLeod can't play for us this season now, and Fleetwood wasn't particularly good at Brighton in League One.

Should put Dickson back in with either Kandol or Burton. Kandol if we actually have a chance of signing him. They looked like they could form a good partnership, especially in League One.

We have a problem with non-striking strikers, we sign a striker on a short-term contract that doesn't leave us having to pay wages for a player next season who might not be up to scratch, and people are moaning...

There's always a risk that we might be getting a player match fit so he can bugger off and play for a better side next season but in balance we've probably got the risk/reward right.

Oh no, you are saying we have signed a tool!

Why don't we give the bloke a chance? Let's see him play and then form an opinion. Perhaps he's the messiah. ;0)

but why send Izzy out on loan, without a recall clause, and then sign another striker effectively on trial. It's a nonsense. As for Fleets, who cares if he was crap at Brighton, we are not Brighton, he is our player and we need to find out what he can do. If that is nothing then fair enough but let's at least find that out.

That's the point, if he is the messiah then he'll probably be signed by someone else for next season. But hopefully we've got first option.

I am happy as we seem to give a debut to a new player every game and so it would feel strange if did not manage at least one more before the end of the season

Fleetwood Town FC, we're buying them and moving our reserves up there into the Blue Square North.

Douala is a winger, right....... and apart from the over-promising under-achieving Lloyd Sam, we haven't got one.

Even though Parky had recently adopted Sir Alf Ramsey's 1966 World Cup winning 'wingless wonders' tactics,
Sam actually showed in the 1st half v Watford that we''d been missing the width and trickery of a conventional winger.

Perhaps Doolally can be direct and put a service into the box for Kandol and whoever....?
And a bit of competition will keep Lloyd Sam on his toes.

Has he signed? Is it on the OS?

What is the CL party line on him? Am I allowed to give him a chance?

What is the record for number of different players used in a season? Surely we can't be far off.

thought it was the 38 used last season. I'm sure we have smashed that this season.
