Wanted to gather some thought on what you guys think will happen in the summer?

Who will leave? Who will stay? What will happen?

I believe there will be big changes with the playing staff with only spring, elliot, burton, basey, wright, semodo staying.

No 1, Christensen refuses to go . We've offered him a lump sum to terminate his contract but he said 'no'.

Why should he agree to go when he can sit here for another two years drawing 5k a week for doing nowt? He's not going to get anything like that money anywhere else, is he ?

He and his agent are holding out for us to buy out his contract in full. Can't blame him for that : it's what the man who signed him, Alan Pardew, insisted upon, after all.

In my opinion, the players we'll see leaving are: Weaver, Moutouakil, Zheng, Hudson, Holland, Gray, Todorov, Ambrose and Fortune.

Racon & Bailey will stay I feel.

EDIT: Bailey will be given the captaincy too. You watch. ;)

And to think people used to laugh at the Winston Bogaard(?) situation at Chelsea! How could it have been allowed to happen to us?

Martin Christensen is currently in Denmark playing for Lyngby - on loan with them until the end of the season according to the (OS post 3 March 2009) and played for just over an hour losing 1-0 to Malmo.
So to my knowledge not just sitting around collecting his wages.
May well be back at the end of the season but then again Lyngby may well sign him.

We're going to lose a lot of players, and will have to build a new squad.

Obviously the loanees will be the first to go, though maybe we'll be able to sign someone like Ward or Murty? It was mentioned in another thread the board said it was a possibility that we would sign some of the loanees, didn't say which though. Maybe Kandol?

Most of our biggest earners are out of contract - good in that we can get rid of them in a few months time, bad in that we won't be able to get a fee for any of them.

The ones out of contract as far as I know are Fortune, Zheng, Holland, Ambrose, Todorov, Arter, Wright, Aswad Thomas, Yussuff and I think Randolph might be. I'd assume Danny Uchechi already is? I saw something on the OS a few months back suggesting Weaver was, though when he signed they said it was a 3 year deal. Might have only been an optional 3rd year so he might be able to go on a free. How many of them will stay? Wright is the most likely, probably Yussuff, possibly Fortune and Holland.

Then we have Christensen who we want to get rid of, contract until 2011.

There's also the players that might have given up hope of breaking through - Yassin, Fleetwood and Sinclair.

After that we probably won't be able to afford the contracted players on big wages - Gray and Hudson.

That doesn't leave us with much - Shelvey, Racon and Bailey will be looked at by other clubs, Semedo might want to leave. Will we want to keep McLeod, Parkinson doesn't seem to rate him.

So who is likely to stay? I'd say Youga, Burton, Sam, Elliot, Dickson, Spring, Solly, Wagstaff and the new young pros, Clark and Stavrinou.

Going to be a very different squad next season.

    Thats a very useful summary.

I think a big factor in all this is going to be the economic climate. I would have thought there will be a number of Championship clubs who will have to trim squads so overall the numbers of contracts available will shrink. If we lose Shelvey it will surely be for a decent fee. I am not so sure that Bailey and Hudson are of the quality that makes them of automatic interest by other clubs. But if we do lose them it will again mean we can juggle with the payroll to get replacements.

I really do hope we keep Racon though and I think he gets on well with Kinsella so that may be a positive. But its going to be another period of transition. I hope we get it right this time.

They'll be considered, with us going down clubs will be hoping to get decent players on the cheap.

There's not much between Hudson and for example McCarthy and Ward, all standard Championship centre backs. They're solid when their clubs get the best out of them.

Bailey will get attention, even if it's just for his goals.

They could still be here but they're good enough for mid table and lower clubs to have a look at.

No idea what's going on with them, the club rarely mention them. I imagine we'll see in the summer. By the end of the season Soro would have played in Belgium and France for 2 1/2 years, two of the others Norway and France for 1 1/2. I don't think any of them have played international football yet, so unless they've torn their leagues apart and shown they are big talents they probably won't get work permits yet?

do you think that they will have the nerv to hold an end of season parade around the pitch. Will they call back all the loan players that have gone back by then, probably not as there will not be enough space on the pitch.

to be fair the last 4 or 5 years it has been a pretty sorry affiar apart from when we won the league and powells last game it has been abit of a damp squib usually only a few hundred of us left to clap the players, maybe we could do a deal with asda and all be given rotten veg to throw at them...

When the season ends we can all trot down to the Anchor and have an end of season party to beat all other end of seasons parties. It is a bank holiday and we can drink away this rotten season and sleep it off on the monday.

thats what me and a few others plan to do anyway.

Yep. Best thing about this season will be when it has ended. Then 3 months of Charlton not losing!

There's usually more than a few hundred aren't there? a few thousand stay for the lap of honour/dishonour, i thought. I'd have thought they will do the same routine they do every season with a lap round the pitch. What do people think the reaction will be like?
